Im in the process of rebuilding my carbs on my 81 gs450. i got the new orings in from Mr. Barr. i know where they all go except the ones for the adjuster screw. ive looked at the parts fiche but cant seem to locate it.maybe im overlooking it?? would love some help on this one want to get them back on the bike tomorrow. thanks for any and all help you guys can provide.

If I understand what you are looking at, it's the mixture screw. take the screw all the way out. There's the screw itself, then a spring, then the metal washer and on the bottom (tip of the screw) is the rubber o-ring.

(note that these screws are covered by a plug by madate from the EPA. It must be drilled out to access the screws)

If you took the screw out and don't have all those parts they are probably still inside the carb body. The best tool I"ve found for getting them out is a twist-tie. Peel about an inch of the paper off one end and bend the metal into a little hook; about 1/16 of an inch. Use it to fish out the washer and o-ring.

Put the screws back in lightly seated, and then back them off to specs for best performance. This depends on your bike and the turns out can be found in the carb specification threads on this forum.

well crap i didnt even think about those being in there. ive already dipped the carbs too. this wont hurt or screw any thing up will it. guess you can call this a rookie mistake.

Shouldn't really hurt it...if they were still in there, they probably aren't any more. From my understanding the carb dip stuff will eat the o-rings.

Use a skinny wood screw to get them out. They will still be in there after the dip. Use a flashlight to see them. They are there.

I use drywall screws to get them out. Long, pointy tips, just press down a bit, twist ever so gently to the right, lift it out.
Works for the spring, washer and the o-ring.

Actually I think it is a drywall screw. I'm an ignoramus when it comes to this stuff.

ok i got the plugs out. got one screw out and new o-ring put on it. the other screw on the other hand turns about 3/4 of a turn and stops. almost like its hitting something? whats the best way to get this thing to break free? thanks guys
