Thanks for the reply, do you think these plates will work with this set of aftermarket zx 12 rear sets?they are adjustable incase they feel to "racey"or not enough "racey"for me,I found these on fleabay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KAWASAKI-ZX12-ZX12R-ADJUSTABLE-REARSETS-REARSET-REAR_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3efd04c59eQQitemZ270532920734QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
They are almost as much as some ebay poops want for a set of stockers. Also do you have any pictures of the shifter side once complete?Wanna walk in the machine shop fully loaded. Thanks again

Sorry for delay I've been on travel for work this week.
Not sure how those units mount from looking at the photos. They may work since they say ready to mount but I can't be sure from looking at the photo.

Keep in mind that your gonna need a master cylinder and remote reservoir as well.

Did you see this listing?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Kawa...rcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item20af6fc564

His posting says he's parting whole bike. I didn't see the shift side listed but it might be worth contacting him. I'll have to look for the post I did before with the shift side details. I used a GS shift shaft and a Gen I FZ1 shift shaft linked together to get the right extended length.

They typically go fro between $50 to $80 per side for the stock ZX12R units. You can probably get a GSXR set to work as well but you would have to change the two rear set mounting bolt locations. I know the 00-05 ZX12R work with my dims. I agree that you should have your rear sets in hand before turning on machine shop.

Copy Right protected drawings. Free for anyone's personal use. Not free for commercial use, contact me if your going into business with these.
Applicable to 1983 GS1100 only. I think they are right, but no guarantee offered or implied.
The depth of the .75" recess for the three mounting bolts is .20". Those bolts are available from the company www.helmethead.com. The two rear set mounting holes are for ZX12r 01-05. You may be able to mount Rear Sets from some other bike, again no guarantees. Brake side shown, Shift side is a mirror image. Mine are made from 3/8" thick billet 6061 aluminum. Steel or titanium or another grade of aluminum might work as well.

Two Helicoils in each plate are 3/8"-24

I don't have the capability to make anymore of these so don't ask, Your machinist should be able to replicate. Mine were made on a Proto-track three access machine but a water jet might be able to cut the shape and most of the holes except the bolt recesses. Might also be able to make them with a hack saw, grinding wheel and hand drill if your serving a long prison sentence and need something to do. Good luck.

Yes, I'm a copy cat.

Yes, I'm a copy cat.

I looked at at least 200 different stock rear sets on ebay and I couldn't find anything that looked as good as those ZX12R units. I found a guy that was selling both sides and the passenger pegs too. Got em for $109 + 20 shipping, and they just got here today.

I came back to this thread to try and figure out how isleoman got around the old shift lever shaft. It's right in the way of the linkage adjuster.

Still need to cut off the old shift shaft post (bottom pic).

I get it. You cut off the shift shaft post. I have read a lot of your posts, and several times you mention that you do your mods in a way that preserve the original elements of the bike... just in case the values of the bike blow up some day in the future. I can totally appreciate that, and I've been in awe of all the mods sans frame modification.

So here's my question: Why the change of heart with this one?

It would be easy enough to weld the post back on, but...

I think I'm going to make my plates out of steel. I'll just paint them black and that way I won't need to reinforce them with helicoils.

And yes, you're less than 1" higher, but about 3" back.

Thanks so much for the inspiration and the idea. "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

Some day, if my wife ever wants a ride, I'll mount these matching rear pegs. OR, maybe some hot babe that's not my wife will want a ride...

isleoman's design is very nice. However access to cnc and lack of funds forced me to go on the cheap for my rearset plates.

1/4" aluminum plate using original footrest bracket mount holes for a locator.

91-92 gixxer 1100 rearsets.

Cut to shape desired...(used a jig saw) and threaded rod for the linkage.

On my original 82 frame I was trying to maintain reversibility but that shift shaft was sort of insurmountable at the time as I was trying to keep the gear close to the frame.

I can feel my side stand occasionally against my heel, I may be farther forward and higher. Wonder if you could put a rubber bumper on the bottom of your frame rail to keep the side stand down a tad, so long as it didn't hurt clearance.

My machinist buddy is retired now so if I was going to do this again I might take the drawings to a water jet cutter and a piece of scrap aluminum plate. Funny one just opened near where I live. They can program the drawing pretty fast. You cut the perimeter and all the holes and use a drill press to make the bolt head recesses, tap the hole for heili coils, and you wouldn't need a lathe.

I had some 1/4" plate laying around made them last night with some cardboard templates. Got all the way to test fitting the rearsets and realized that the brake linkage interferes with my exhaust. Serious D'oh!!!
I can't just re drill, I need to cut whole new plates.
Chop saw, drill press, bench grinder, MIG welder.

Oh well. At least I can use my failed plates as templates for the next set.

I can see why you made facsimiles out of plexiglass. It would be nice to verify rider position too.

I'm really struggling with finding a solution for my kickstand. I put a blob of weld in the joint but it's not enough. I think if I keep adding weld by the time I get enough room the kickstand is going to be dragging on the ground.
