    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So I have dipped and cleaned the carbs on my GS 1000 and am now ready to put everything back on the bike.

My question is this: Is it even possible to install the carbs before installing the stock air box? I mean, would one be able to get the air box on if the carbs are installed 1st?

But reinstalling the carbs is pretty easy into that space

What GS 1000 are you talking about?

Edit I see you have a 79


1. Reassemble the entire carb rack
2. Take the top bolts out of the air box
3. On the right side of the motor, take the carb rack and attach and adjust both throttle cables
4. Slide the rack in from the right side, tilted down to the front
5. Straddle the bike and rotate the carbs mostly into the intake boots
6. Using a screwdriver, pry the air box boots over the cab mouths about half way
7. Confirm that the front of the carbs are lined up in the boots and push the rack forward, fully into the boots. Confirm the clamps are positioned so you can access them to tighten
8. Finish prying the airbox boots in place. Wiggle the airbox onto the carbs Tighten the clamps
9. Tighten the boot clamps
10. Lift up the airbox and reinstall the 2 top bolts. Reinstall the vent hose to the box. Install the air filter box
11. Verify that all hoses are attached where they below. Check the throttle action

This should take 5-10 minutes. Some silicone lube on the boots can be helpful

I follow pretty much what BigT does except I leave the cable bracket and cables off until the carbs are back in. That gives you more wiggle room with the frame rails and the bracket and cables are relatively easy to install after unlike with CV carbs. The real trick is having nice pliable carb boots. Good luck if they're old a hard.
