A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm about to dip and rebuild my carbs, I know Z1 has rebuild kits that are around 20bucks each that include the needles, orings and such.
Cycle o-rings has just the o-ring kit but its almost as much as Z1..
I've herd that keeping the original needles is suggested, but I want to
just replace everything.. given the fact that one of my pilot fuel screws has a slight notch ..and my float needles have really small notches
What would you guys suggest?

Hi,

My 2 cents (This is what I would do):

Robert Barr (cycleorings.com) gives you enough O-rings for all 4 carbs for one price. Reuse all of the hardware. If any hardware is not reusable, then order good replacement parts from an OEM vendor or Sudco, jetsrus.com, or motorcyclecarbs.com.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

You realize that you'll need 4 rebuild kits, right, that easily more than the o ring kit, and it won't even come with all of the orings.

The machining is subpar on the rebuild kits, just reuse the old parts, and the only part you might need to replace is the float needle and seat.

Carb kits are teh suck -- they're incomplete, for starters, and the assortment of bits they do include are low-rent imitation parts that don't fit and won't work right. And, as mentioned, you'd need four kits to screw up all four carbs. Completely, utterly pointless.

Get an o-ring kit from Cycleorings.com and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS in the carb cleaning series here: http://www.thegsresources.com/gs_carbrebuild.htm

The only thing I'm worrying about is my pilot fuel screw has a small notch around it, as well as my float bowl valve needles have little notches on the side.My plan is to dip them, put new orings, I guess new gaskets sighhh and new float bowl valves.

Needles should be reusable, if not OEM is the correct way about $35 each assembly. Or you can get just the needles from Z1
any pictures of the needle ?
