DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Recommendation for shop or Chicago area member - need fork seals replaced

Can anyone recommend a good shop or member in the Chicago area that could help me replace the seals on my 81 850G?

I moved to the Northwest suburbs of Chicago in March without significant tools and the movers must have cranked down on the handlebars in the moving van because my fork seals have been leaking while parked in the garage ever since.

I want to order some of Rich Desmond’s springs and replace the old springs/fluid and possibly the steering head bearings at the same time.

If if there’s a Chicago area member with a garage or shop and a willingness to help or allow me to use their vice and has a lift or rafters we can strap to or even someone that I can pay to do it, I’d appreciate it.

Or if someone can recommend a good mechanic or shop, ideally in the Elk Grove/Schaumburg/Deer Park areas the that works as well.

There are several folks in the Chicago area. Give them a little time; many have been at the rally in southern Indiana for the past few days.

Sounds good, thanks Brian.

Chicago is a big place, and I'm hoping someone has a garage or shop that I can bring some cash, beers or other frosty beverages of choice one Saturday or Sunday evening that would be great. I don't mind paying a good shop but prefer to do my own work and just don't have the setup at my new place.

I'm ordering my springs from Rich today and reading about the rally right now - looks like a good time with good food and GS'R's! Wishing I could have gone...so busy with my jobs to get much time off lately and my daughter is getting married back home in Utah in August, gotta save my pennies and PTO!

Anyway - if anyone can point me in the right direction via a reply or PM, I'd be very appreciative!

Mike
