And we went for ride
IMG_3254.jpg

I was thinking the faster bike should take the lead, but Greg suggested I lead since I had been that way before. SO he got to watch me wobble and go wide a couple times.

We rode some of the roads that somewhat follow the Muskegon River into Newaygo. Went into Newaygo and back.

Note to Josh: I think he likes the bike.

Greg, Good to met with you and chat for a while. Nice bike. Good ride.

You may have noticed me go wide a bit a couple times. Mostly due to not pushing the bars hard enough and noticing that no traffic comming. I have to work on that.
One of those times, comming out of Newaygo, accelerating uphill in switchbacks, I was doing good and leant over in curve, accelrating and <<schhhhhuuu>> almost instantly my front end is pointing in a somewaht different direction, front end had slipped out, Yikes. (dern goldwing tires)

Yep, do call if you are going to be this way, or have any other plans for a ride.

Dave

Hey, that blue and white bike looks vaguely familiar.

Seems that I have chased it for many a mile, too. :D

hey dave, the pics came out nice! interesting, my rear kicked out a bit on that same section! got my attention for sure. and i didnt really see you blowing lines too much, i felt a bit like i was learning to ride all over again. i dont ride enough with others, i found i was watching you too much and not paying attention to what the road in front of you was doing, i felt a little surprised more than once. something to work on for sure.....guess i need to meet up with more of you guys so i can work on my riding skills some more.

and, yeah, me likey the bikey....

......

Two possibilities:

- lets think of some west Michgan event next year to meet up with other GSR members.

- Brown County ride next May.

Wonderin if you two gentlemen

Wonderin if you two gentlemen

could suggest a good route to take to get out to your neck of the woods! I have a wedding out that way next week somewhere in Holland. I'm comin out from Fowlerville and not really ready to take the bike on the e-way yet. Some more kinks to work out before I do that. Could you suggest a good bike friendly route either from my town or at least around your area? Thanks!

...
...!

The rodas pictured above are between Muskegon and Newaygo, about 10 turns on several different roads. Not a good route for getting anywhere. And pretty far north out of your way.

Just last weekend I rode A42. Is straight shot through corn fields and dairy farms, with some up and down hill. Although lots of woods here and there right next to road. Was thinking maybe a good place for deer to step out at about dusk. But is good pavement. That Hopkins is only thing on it, and it is just a crossroads. Takes you to M40 which goes into south end of Holland.

Will PM later this evening or tommorow.

OK, that's it....I'm tired of seeing my old bike being enjoyed by other people. First watching Josh spruce her up and dote on it for a few years, and now you sitting there all smiling and hyped up....I am coming to fetch my old flame back! What's your address? I'm stealing her back to her 1st love (well maybe 2nd, 3rd , 4th???)

Back when she was mine, poor with crappy Cheng Shin sneakers, being abused by me and not as pretty!

Why not jump on the ferry and go to Fennimore?

Or, you could just go - great roads, only 2 hours away

yeah....heh, not gonna happen. i think i will hang on to her for a while.....just got some nice comments from 3 different people at the gas station the other day. She doesnt get as much attention from passers-by as my wife's dream, but she does definitely get some looks. i recently solved my oil leak (crack in the cam cover gasket, so no problem there) and did a valve adjust, which interestingly moved any vibration out of the grips but into the right bar end mirror, which now will not stay in adjustment! ah well, on the es, "what is behind does not matter!"

as for potential west mi meetups, bike time in muskegon is in a few weeks, i plan on bringing essie down on friday....mostly harleys and their clones, but that makes these old gs's stand out even more!

Weird, when I had, it looked like it started leaking from the front, but when I investigated, it was leaking from the inboard side of #2 cyl exhaust area of the valve cover. When I did the valve adjustment I found the gasket was cracked in that spot and didn't have a problem with the new valve cover gasket after that. I had checked to see if there was a burr or something that might cause it but the mating surfaces looked good.

yeah, i considered a realgasket since i have the electronic tach(which does not work). i was originally worried about a headgasket, but no problem there. that oil migrates everywhere.

Looks like you guys had a good time! But I was wondering where that belly pan came from.

You can't use a realgasket on the 16 valvers, especially the 1100s (ask me how I know). What you want is an OEM gasket, not an aftermarket like a Vesrah. I went thru 2 in a row, leaking like a sieve, before I wised up and got an OEM. No problems at all after that.
And congrats on a very nice bike.

He CAN use a realgasket because there's no tach drive on the ES. It's electronic. And he can also drop those 1150 cams in there hint hint since he's not worried about a tach drive either. But don't get a realgasket Greg. Buy an OEM gasket, grease it lightly, put it in. They crack in front, the cam chain slings oil like an SOB and makes an efficient mess. Just the nature of the beast. ;)

Ask Josh (TheCafeKid). He put that one on there. I'm not sure he didn't nab it from eBay, but he may know where it came from originally.

Actually I picked that up off of Jimmy. It's a maier pan, dunno if they still make em, but search googlie. Finding spare hardware was a lucky bit though. Which reminds me Greg I have a bag of bits to send you. Spares and such. Shoot me your mailing addy again brother.

Yeah, wasn't necessarily meaning them roads. Was just thinking what better person to ask about a good route out that way than a MC rider that knows the area ;) Thanks for the help!

That kinda sounds like what I am lookin for. Woods next to the road isn't a big thing. I know what you mean. I ride thru about a half mile stretch of that kinda road on my daily commute  I came across three crossing the road early this week. Boy was I glad they didn't decide to turn around!! Funny story bout that too. I live on a dead end dirt road and I was comin up to the main paved road. About 500' from it a HUGE dear cut in front of me and jumped the road in front of me. He was 20' away so didn't really have to but was on a spook cuz as I looked down when he was crossing, there was also a rabbit running along side him! I told this to a friend at work and she joked that it was Bambi and Thumper lol
