If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Is there any harm in installing universal automotive-type plug wires?

Also, does anyone know what is involved as far as digging the old wires out of the coils?

Thanks.

I used automotive spark plug wires on my 750 and 1150 without any problems.
The wires had been on the 1150 for about 40,000 miles and were fine when I sold the bike.

Digging the old wires out of the existing stock coils and trying to connect the new ones is one of those things that just sounds like a really bad idea. Never tried it though, so maybe it's possible. I'm sure if it is, someone here would know.

I replaced the coils with Dyna coils, and I use regular car spark plug wires. I think a nice set for a V-8 cost me $25 or so, so I have a spare set.

If you want to use the stock coils, you might be better off to get butt (end-to-end) connectors and leave a few inches of the original wire attached to the coils. I think NGK makes some screw-together connectors for spark plug wires.

Many times, the original wires are in fine shape, but the old boots are shot. These are easy and cheap to replace with new NGK parts.

This is what I did with my KZ when it needed wires. It works fine. I ordered Magnacor wires, but I suspect that a good set of wires from a local auto parts would have worked just fine.

I used sets of 4 cylinder wires for a Ford Tempo on my GS with Accel Coils for about 80K miles. Car wires work great, once you have a good way connect them to the coils.

bwringer,

Are the NGK plug ends OEM or aftermarket? And where would you suggest getting them?

Thanks,

Can anyone dirrect me to a company selling coils that will work with an 81 GS 550?

Thanks.
