A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Reimo chain case

Interesting...?.I've never seen one. Wonder what the reasoning behind it is? Keeping the chain clean, keeping the wheel clean, both? Chain maintenance would have to be a top priority, since a loose chain could possibly wreck havoc on it.

both, i think.

A lifetime ago i had a closed chain case like this one on my 50cc Zundapp GTS50 moped, and the chain lasted more than 4 times longer than my buddies that had the open chain guard.

They were an old idea, that enjoyed a limited resurgence in the 70s and 80s for larger bikes and the more expensive chains thereon. Long-distance riders bought them, but not enough to keep the idea alive, because it seems to have disappeared again.
From my own experience of a small bike with a factory chaincase (an MZ), the cheap and cheerful factory chain on that lasted from the day I bought it to the day I got rid of it, about 30,000 miles. I had occasionally cleaned and re-lubed the chain, but nothing like as many times as would have been required for a naked chain.

So, they DO work, but today's riders don't use them much, if at all. The other consideration is fit - the chaincase has to be properly sized to do its job, and be properly fixed in place. Not much use if the design is lacking.

Just informed the seller i am buying it.
May use it on my bike i use in the winter, the salt and dirt wreak havoc on the chain and sprockets.

Or put it on the wall in my garage as curiosity :D

Yes, sometimes i feel like a hoarder :o

My 75' 400 supersport came to me with an enclosed chain guard of a different style. I wasnt a fan at first but this one is quick to open up to inspect and service as well as keeping the chain/sprockets clean. Kinda used to it now.

just started working on a 82 yamaha virago xv920 with a friend, and it's got an enclosed drive chain like this one. stock, it seems.

the bike sat in a garage for 20 years after a small mishap onroad spooked the owner. the exhaust, especially at the joints, suffered from rusting and corrosion, but peering into the chain case and rotating the wheel showed a drive chain that looks about as good as it probably did 20 years ago.

we'll see how obnoxious the system will be once we try to get the wheels off tomorrow for new tires.
