Remote oil filter?

hey all, I've been thinking bout remote oil filters, through my work i can get oil filters and filter heads that i can mount anywhere, along with making oil supply and return lines, but.... i cannot find anywhere about how to put in a adapter in original oil filter housing, behind exhaust, to be a strait flow design. (from oil pump through housing). has anyone attempted it or done it before?

Don't know exactly how you would do it but just wondering why you would want to. Is it to save money on the Suzuki filters?

There is a kiwi racer that did a remote cooler/filter iirc.side car racer.

I also can't imagine what the point would be, but it's a long, nasty winter and the mind wanders...

Anyway, one big roadblock is that the roller bearing engines use very little oil pressure (readings under 5psi hot are totally normal). A remote filter setup would end up moving a lot less oil through the filter, and if you use a spin-on oil filter, it is most likely not designed to work at such low pressures.

1. previous owner was an a$$hole to this bike and overtightened filter cover, pulled the threads for one of the studs. I've tapped all three holes in block and am now using bolts instead of studs, but theres not allot of meat left in those threads..
B. it would be allot more quick and cleaner to just have a spin on filter.
III. The fleetgaurd spin on filters I've been looking at are cheaper, larger, lower micron rating, and more efficient.
4. Yes it is a long cold winter and my mind is wondering. right now in green bay it is -10 and -30 windchill.

In my mind i don't see why or how it would affect oil pressure.. pressure is pressure, as long as its not restricted (plugged filter, to small of lines or fittings) or as long as I'm not using, say, 1" braided hose for oil lines, cause then the flow would be to small. after all, you can't have pressure with out some restriction to flow.

Any and all input welcome, would there be any cons that I'm not thinking of?

the lack of available pressure would struggle to push the oil through the filter, especially a very low micron count filter

There are kits out there for some models that come complete with modified cover, lines and cartridge. One way or another you will need the thing sealed so I would be looking into helicoiling the holes. Maybe when that's done the stock set up looks ok.
Apart from the vulnerability of external lines and clearance for the modified cover plate my question would be about the time taken to fill the lines and cartridge and get back to the main galleries. My light is out before the motor fires up.
I think of remote filters in the context of dry sumps or a second auxiliary filter fitted a la oil cooler - but what do I know.
Motorcycleenhancements.com offer a kit for the v-star 1100 - might be worth a look see.

well thanks all, i think i am going to scrap the idea, its been a long cold winter already of just sitting inside thinking of new stuff to do to my bike. (update for green bay, wi -10 -20 wind chill). wait a minute... (light bulb flickering) new idea!!.. custom exhaust that is completely shoved to the right, for easy access to oil filter. itsa 4-1 megaphone long and hard to the back!! yep.. that'll do.....
