I have a GS 850 Shaft drive that I need to remove the back tire for a replacement, but I need to know the procedure for this. Any help would be grateful.

I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oh, wow, another 850 in oHIo. 
Nessism is very correct (again, as usual), there is a lot of information on BassCliff's site.
You can even download a manual if you don't already have one.
- To remove the rear wheel, start with the bike on the centerstand. I put the centerstand on a 2x4 to raise the back of the bike just a little more.
- If your centerstand has a lock feature, use it. If not, use a ratchet strap to hold the centerstand to something at the front of the bike to make sure it does not fold up.
- Remove the bolt holding the brake stay to the caliper mount.
- Remove the axle nut, slide the axle out, carefully noting the position and orientation of any spacers that fall out.
- The caliper mount will also fall, be careful to support it so the brake hose does not carry the weight.
- When the axle is completely out, move the caliper mount out of the way, slide the wheel to the right, off the splines so it can come down.
- Roll the wheel out the back.
Assembly is, of course, "reverse the procedures above", but please take the time to inspect and grease the splines on the wheel hub (using Honda Moly 60 paste) before putting the wheel back on the bike. Do a search, there are many, many (many) posts on the topic showing the importance of doing this.
