A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ive just got myself a new camchain (RK Takasago 219) but it has a split link which needs to be rivited over.

Im not sure how to do this, do I just hit it with a centrepunch or what?

thanks.

Tricky business there, If you pein it over too much, you can get a tight link and not enough, the opposite. Either way an expensive failure. I have not done one on a GS as I prefer to take the engine out and put a link-less one in. I have seen people who take the cams out and lie the bike on its side so that they can rest the chain on a nice solid and steady surface and gently pein it over with a hammer. There are tools for making up drive chains, though I haven't seen one for one that small but this: http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/tools/chain_breaker_and_riveting_tool/ may work. Be careful and thorough.

I installed a new cam chain on my old KZ750. Buy the tool, makes it really easy.

Cut the old chain, wire the new chain to the old one and thread the new one carefully into the engine. No need to bang or pound the master link, the tool does all the work.

You can get versions of the motion pro one on the internet for 40 ish bucks...

They will also do a drive chain too.

There's also this one... http://www.pitposse.com/poentichbrri.html

I've bought a couple of other tools of theirs recently & they work great.

I've got to do one on my G shortly....

Gaillarry - I take it you had room to pull it through past the sprockets without removing the cams?

Dan :)

Ive used the "split link" kind 3 times and NEVER had a problem with them, soooooooooo much easier than putting the endless ones in, but if the motor is stripped down put the endless one in.

hehe on the way to Yosemite?? Much as I love that ride over the pass I hadn't planned on it in the next month ;) ....

Who knows, it may have to wait :D
