I 'm replacing the stator on my 79 GS1000S. I bought one along with a new R/R from Steve's Motorsports. Very nice people. Answered some very noobie questions I had. Basically walked me through the whole process. (Damn it, Jim. I'm a painter not a mechanic) As I was putting the stator cover back on the magnet literally snatched it out of my hands. As I was pulling it back off to reposition it the gear and shaft that connects to the starter drive also pulled out. Of course the thrush washer on the back of the gear got sucked into, I'm assuming, somewhere in the rotor area. For the life of me I can't find it, but it didn't hit the floor. I spent 2 hours looking for that washer to no avail. I have 2 real good motorcycle mechanic friends that say just to be safe, pull the rotor to make sure it's not in there. Sooooo..anyone have the correct puller for this engine that I could buy or borrow or rent with shipping charges both ways..? Any ideas on maybe an aftermarket one..? I checked Z1 and searched eBay but there's nothing specific for a 1000 engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
