I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I've been using this forum to help me get my bike fit and now it's time to share the fun.
I live in Cornwall UK (Lands End) and thought a likkle trip to Scotland (John o Groats) would be a perfect trip during these uncertain times. I rode to Wye Valley in wales, up to the Lake district then on to Glasgow. From Glasgow to Inverness where I picked up the NC500 route to John O Groats. My mates had a 1904 ketch sailing around the Outer Hebrides so I caught up with them in Oban and then snaked up the West coast of Scotland to Ullapool via the Isle of Skye.
It's a fantastic country with lonely snaking roads and some breathtaking passes. I wild camped and got a cheap bunk house when the weather demanded. I'll share some photos but just to say that the whole of the UK off of the motorways is really astonishingly beautiful. I pointed home via the Cairngorns, Newcastle Upon Tyne, the Yorkshire Dales and Nottingham where I stumbled upon a biker fest to finish off my trip.
The GS never let me down and loaded with some whiskey in the panniers, i'll re live this adventure with every wee dram!
Cheers fellas!
(P.S. my carb manifolds are a bit broken now. Anyone know of some supplier for a GS850GN?)
Travel wide my friends!

Pasty.

Lovely story and refreshingly brief. Obviously you're not a self promoter.
Thank you and pass the bottle if you please. ; )

I feel like I just watched a scene from Lord of the rings......

Thanks for sharing your story pastychamp.

Thanks Rich, for reposting that beautiful pic.

I was stationed at RAF Whetherfield & RAF Mildenhall from Feb89 to Sep93 and married a Scottish lass who’s family migrated from Coatbridge, which is just outside of Glasgow.

Of course during our courtship, we drove up to Edinburg and did the bed & breakfast thing. We also visited my future wife’s auntie Lottie in Coatbridge. The drive from RAF Whethersfield in Essex to Edinburg was great! Beautiful countryside the closer we got to Scotland.

Lately, our family has been talking up another Eurotrip (we went to Ireland in 2019) and visit southwest England. There is so much to see and even living there for 4.5 years was not enough time to see it all.

Let us know how you get on with your bike.

Cheers Grimly. Appreciate the link. Hopefully I can source in the UK but there's definitely more love for the GS State-side.

Yeh, that ride from Hayle to Lands End along the North Coast is epic ( apart from school summer holidays when it's full of @#* caravans)

Nice! Looks like you had decent weather too! How were the midges up there? I used to go up to the Oban area a lot as a kid... :)

Such nice country. I haven't ridden there, but I've driven all over Scotland and loved so many spots.

A more recent study found no support for that strategy.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16033124/

That's not the Scottish midge, and you'll notice I said specifically B6.
The proponent of that strategy had recommended it to others, some of whom found it didn't work. Fair enough, most of these midge remedies or deterrents don't work for everyone. However, it transpired that the people who'd reported it not working for them had been talked into taking a different concoction of B vitamins and something else. In other words, not B6.
As I said, I've not tried it, so it's just a third-hand tale on the internet, take it as you wish.

The study used both B complex and individual B vitamins and found no evidence that they do anything.

Here's another look at this. Sure, mosquitos may not be Scottish midges, but the entomological evidence is that B6 is just an old wives' tale.

The attractiveness level of a person to biting insects depends on how various complex factors interact. While foods may help repel insects, there is no scientific proof that supports vitamin B6 as an insect repellent. In fact, one study dispels the myth. The University of Wisconsin performed an experiment whereby volunteers take either vitamin B pills or placebos. The researchers then exposed these individuals to mosquitoes and found that the vitamin B had no effect on mosquito attraction.
