    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I pulled my plugs today, I get a bit of a soft popping every once in a while on my bike, typically if the choke is pulled out and I hit the throttle and noticed that everything looked good except the plug on pot #2, it was almost carbon fouled.

I suspect I need to adjust my carbs at some point, I am waiting for my colortune and carbtune kits to arrive before I touch them, however is it possible that this is being cause my a leaky vacuum on my petcock?

I disconnected the hose, smelled like gas, but difficult to say if that was because some gas came out when I also disconnected the fuel line. I blew down the tube and only a tiny tiny bit of moisture came out, could have been from my own breath.
 
If it's 1980 and up four cylinder bike the petcock vacuum line runs to the #2 cylinder. Check the line for gas and replace petcock if there is.

Our chef may have it right. If you've got an after-market petcock, the vacuum port may be leaking. (I experienced that problem, over the weekend, for about the third time). These carbs are somewhat forgiving but extra air causes big problems!! (I bought a couple of extra vacuum caps since they seem to deteriorate quickly.)
 
Fouling on #2 is the textbook sign of a leaking petcock. What happens is that the vacuum diaphragm develops tiny pinholes over the decades and extra gas gets pulled through and into the #2 intake.

Order a new petcock from your favorite Suzuki parts source and forget about the problem for another 20 years.

Don't fart around with homemade fixes or rebuild kits. They usually don't work, and they aren't safe to use on a safety critical fuel valve located eight inches from your genitalia.

You are right, it is a 1980 GS1000 GT. Well, I am going to go with there being a leak and get myself a new petcock. Since I want to colortune soon I guess I will have to fix this to properly tune the bike.
