    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Is the sleeve end threaded or just tight fit?
How can I remove broken half in motor head?

It's threaded if it's the bit I think it is.

I would try to knock it around with a screwdriver or chisel. (knock a slot into it then change the angle to hit it round anti-clockwise)

It's part 25 from the Haynes exploded view.
Only 1/8 in. wall thickness. I'm afraid to do more damage.
 
If you take the valve cover off you may be able to get some grips on it from the inside.... or thinking about it, remove that little bracket & screw & pull the whole assembly, deal with it on the bench!

You can replace the O ring when you put it back too. The assembly is a push fit not threaded, just the cable is threaded.

I was going to replace the seals because of oil leak when I realized the PO messed it up. Should have checked before ordering the parts:oops: LOL.
Push fit makes sense, otherwise they'd be no holder with screw.
Bass did a pictorial on that replacement, can't find it.

I will try pulling it out, now that I know it's not threaded. Still wandering how PO managed to break it.

Can't pull it out. The portion stuck in the head got flared from the inside out by the spindle:cry:.
I could see very well once I removed the valve cover. Will post pics tomorrow.
While I had the valve cover off, decided to check clearance on shims.
That's when I saw the PO crossthreaded the spark plug on cylinder 3:shock:.

AAAArrfffff!!

Left the shed door unlocked on purpose, if I'm lucky, someone will steal it! LOL

I actually saved my GS1100ED from my PO's hand of destruction. :shock:Looks like you might have done the same. :-D.

That's the same cylinder as mine... sucks. I had spent several hours trying to scrape off the valve cover gasket because it seemed like the original one that was cemented on. Even spraying on gasket remover barely helped! lmao
I hope you don't have to replace the head too.

Hi Mighty13d,

I'm debating if I fix both problems with changing head or fix them independantly (flared tacho sleeve and stripped threads):?. PO did a lousy job on PM.
I'm opening a new can of worm everytime I change a seal or clean a part.
Confidence on the GS I picked up here is what makes me go on with resto.
