DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So, first start up of the spring, post carb clean/valve adj/fuel guage fix, smokey!

Argh, so it isn't the petcock.

It was sunny today so I noticed that the smoke IS blue tinted, but it doesnt have the "blue smoke dodge caravan" smell too it? Also it goes away after it is warmed up, and in the 3 subsequent startups after 10 or so min cooldown no smoke at all...?

The wet plug was wet with OIL, but the oil is on the THREADS? New plugs installed, clean as a whistle after some idling and neutral revving/low speed driveway stuff, no oil at all...?

So it seems it smokes out the left tailpipe (not the petcock/vacuum one FWIW), it's blueish but not super oild burn smelling and it goes away after a few min or started hot, and it only does it the first startup after a couple days off?

other than that it ticks a bit but runs like a dream, nice solid idle at 1100 no choke after a couple min...

You're saying that the new plug hasn't fouled yet? Might be a valve seal leaking oil into the cylidner. Whatever it is, it sounds pretty minor. Ride it for a hundred miles or so and see if that doesn't help.

yeah, new plug, no fouling, old plug is soaked in oil. Both old plugs are black as coal, but not caked on the electrodes. Just black.

New plugs and 15 odd min of idling clean as they went in... too clean really.

I was worried though as it was a LOT of smoke, for a good 5-10 min it smoked as much as my wifes 2 stroke after sitting for 2 years in the shed.

Any way to fix this easily? I just think its a bit embarassing to have a bike that smokes like a pile of burning tires for the first 5 min after startup... :(

anybody have any ideas or do I need to replace all the valve seals? I dont want to ride a bike that smokes this much every time I start it up?

is valve seal replacement as big a PITA as it seems?
