If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Source for new seat pan?

Hi,

I just purchased a 1979 GS850G and am doing a thorough but budget-minded restoration. One obvious thing that needs attention is the seat. I've recovered seats in the past, so I thought, "no big deal" but didn't realize how rusted the original seat pan is.

I've searched, but can't seem to find a source for just the seat pan. The foam is in usable shape and I've got a Pit Replica seat cover in the mail. Would love to find a new replica seat pan on the cheap.

Thanks!

At one time there were fibreglass pans available - I've got one and it's been every bit as sturdy as the steel original.
However, last time I looked, there were none to be found. Doesn't mean they don't exist, though.
Last year, somebody posted a link to a supplier who was knocking them out in steel again, from Vietnam, iirc.

Grimly, i sure would like to see that Vietnam guy. Wonder if he has early 1000 pans.

Not sure if that's him or not, I recall the previous website mentioned pans were available seperately and somebody here got one, I think.

Looks like the site doesn't have a seat specific to the '79 850. Are the seats, namely the pan, on the 750 and/or 1000 the same? Thanks!

Here's the seat and pan I'm trying to replace

The 79, 80, 81 GS850 share a seat with the 80 and 81 GS1000G

However, knowing that the 850 was basically a shafted 750, and the frame of the GS1000 was so close, I'd be sorely tempted to take a punt on that. I'd drop the supplier a query asking for hinge and lock placement measurements though - unless I could find a GS1000 chainy locally to measure up first.
The selling price is so tempting, but adding on shipping makes me cautious of spending 300 instead of 200.
