DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Stainless Allen Bolt Set???

Never purchased a set from them but with close to 27,000 transactions and a 99.9% Positive Feedback i would think the fit and finish are good.

Deffo getting a set soon. A couple of engine that've passed to me from POs have been fitted with them and they make a huge difference to the hassle factor of dealing with old corroded x-head screws, even if you have the correct JIS screwdriver.
Allen headed bolts just crack loose and work properly with no cursing.
The engine without them at the moment yeilded to the JIS tool, but a couple of them got a bit strained, so may as well fit the whole kit - it's cheap enough for the easy maintenace it contributes to.

Got the stainless allen bolt set in today. They look very good and you can tell that the heads are all hand polished by the discoloration on the threads below the head. Very pleased!

I ordered a set for myself. Now I just need an ikea torque wrench :p

I may pick a set up this spring, will be watching this thread. I hope it's really a complete set, the one I bought from CycleRecycle didn't have a lot of what I needed... and lots of what I didn't.

The set looks to be complete. It even comes with the bolts bagged and tagged as to where they go on the engine. I have not installed them yet as I have the bike in the middle of a restoration right now.

Quick question

Quick question

When you install them, be sure to use COPPER anti-seize. :encouragement:

Thanks for the advice Steve, have you installed a set of these? Can they be swopped out one at a time or would the stress/warp larger 'plates' or covers?

Hoping my set will be at home just before me as this would be a nice little task to achieve while home on leave in March.

I've put a few of these sets on bikes, including a BMW, and my 1100E. I've always done it one at a time, without issues.
Understand it is possible you may find some stripped or near stripped threads, depending on the bikes past.

Also I found that, depending on the kit, they may not all be the exact same length as OEM. And, you may end up with extra, or you may be missing some.
A lot of people making kits, most are pretty good though.

I got my kit. I somehow suspected them to be more shinier tho? Neatly organized in bags, and more than I expected (even some allen screws, hope those are for those round things on the top of the engine).

Also, where do I get an Ikea-torque-wrench?

I would think Ikea would have them...;-)

I also wonder, what covers can safely be removed without the oil falling out?

If it's on the sidestand, you can remove the clutch cover.
You can copy that feat for the stator cover by either leaning the bike against a doorpost or propping up one foot of the centre stand on a 50mm thick slab of wood.

Is locktite 243 the right one to put on all these?
camchain tensions
clutch lever
secondary drive cover
starter cover
generator cover
points cover (???)
carb intake
cylinder head
cylinder head cover
oil pan/oil filter cover

Low to medium strength threadlocker for all general purpose fastenings that you think might come loose. 243 is ok.
Basically, blue Loctite for low to medium, red for stuff you seriously never want to come loose, or even ever come apart again without applying heat - sometimes a lot of heat.
