Stand, center 42100-45000

I bought this center stand 42100-45000 from a local bike salvage yard and the bike shop installed it, it would not extend. I unfortunately did not keep the broke part so I did not match it, I only went with the part number. I then ordered another one with the part number listed in the Suzuki parts database and I received the exact same looking part but again it will not fit. I have a 1977 Suzuki GS 750 - I am certain it is B but I could be wrong, why won't it extend so that the center stand does its job? I have included a photo of my bike, maybe I am wrong and it is not a B,C&EC?

Clean any rust off the pivot parts, and grease them before install.

It would not extend??? shouldn't extend, just goes straight up and straight down. Did the bike shop just install it and not see nor tell you if it was working or not??? find another shop... Looks like non OEM exhaust, could that be causing problems? Would think all the GS750's "77" thru "79" should be the same, as long as not an "L" model. Little more info could help identify what may be happening.

Yes the bike shop installed it and did not try it out. I only found out after I attempted to use the stand. The exhaust were on with the previous center stand that been on since 1977 and had two different non OEM exhaust on it and it worked fine. What happens is that it won't straighten so that it functions as designed. Here is picture of what the top of the stand looks like. It seems that it should be more rounded? Both the stand on the bike now and the one in image I just bought are OEM. So I am at a loss as to why either will not fit.

This "shop" should be as ashamed. Hope you didn't pay them. Some things you need to do yourself.

I will have to look underneath and take a picture. Unfortunately I will have to find someone to help me as I cannot do that on my own. I had already paid them. They did the switch in the winter as they also store my bike in a heated structure.

It seems you're say'in the stand comes down, but not far enough to lift the bike??? In my memory nothing on the stand should ever touch anything anywhere till that little flat tab on the top front of the pivot hole rests against the frame... Can you get down there and see what is hitting or catching on what? Also what broke on the original one that you said you didn't keep?, these things usually don't break, that may tell something. Sorry, I wrote this before the 2 last posts, but didn't submit it till later, Dang Rich, is yours touching your exhaust pipe?

Temp work around: put a brick under each leg of the stand if you need to get the rear wheel off the ground.

I had a CB350 with extended front forks.

From the only pic of the bike that we see in the first post, those appear to be aftermarket rear shocks. Are they shorter than stock? The front forks also appear to be poking out above the triple tree? If your bike has been lowered, you may not be able to use a stock center stand.

The last center stand rusted and broke at the leg where you put your foot on. That center stand was original to the bike and worked fine with the aftermarket shocks, front forks, pipes. I even took the damaged stand to the bike salvage and we exactly matched a replacement. I am going to get my son to help me today and will video tape the point where the stand hits before straightening out.
