    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Having been unable to even clean my bike and it being left outside but covered for almost 3 years I am now starting to give it a good work over regarding appearance.

I have cleaned the exhaust pipes , used wire wool and wd40 and go them to this status as per the picture.
Is there a way to get better ?
I was considering using a wrap of white wine vinegar for 30 mins to help the rust spots.

I like regular old-fashioned Turtle Wax chrome cleaner. Steel wool can scratch unless you use the 000 stuff, and that stuff turns to mush quite easily.

Done just that and reckon that's as good as I'll get. My fault as had to leave the bike outside with barely any care. An outrage which will never happen again

Used the steel wool / autsol (UK) .

One final question on this . Now done how do i protect them being outside ? There are small bits of rust micro holes .

I use Carnauba polish (as someone told me on non hot chrome things ) as fills in the micro holes that can rust again - like headlight rim , wing mirrors. Kinda works ....

Thin coat oil ? Hrmmm
 
Have I just forgot? Don't I remember using Never Dull & Semichrome Polish on chrome as well as the alum. it was designed for?
 
Gosh too long ago. Don't remember eagle one, for sure no bird on the can nor silver can. Back then was a red & blue can with white writing, just figured Never Dull was the brand. It was like this stuff you put on here, a wadding material with the solution already soaked in it. I's thinking it said for alum. but possibly for other stuff too.
 
My method was / is:
Various grades steel wool / wd40 as lubricant
Autosol paste
Aluminium foil
I will add as a test of time-
(Brasso and toothbrush )
(Someone on a link said aluminium foil and vinegar- but don't know method he used on that)

I'll clean with brake fluid and I'm gonna use a sealant to protect.

Acf-50 spray which say it can take heat. I will wipe on very thinly only on downpipes. Yes I am told it burns off but still protects. I absolutely will not spray a thick film on.
The bike is going to have to suffer a winter outside but covered so I will report how this goes.

Also the metal collars that hold in the downpipes I'm gonna use vinegar to remove rust / clean and then 'blue' after rubbing down.
