    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I love this bike.

I want to go all the way back to your first build. how long did it take you to polish the aluminum on the bike? Did you do it by hand or use a wheel?

Hehe... I was reading the post for the GN250 and saw what you said. I guess that finally made me realize it :rolleyes:.

This is my first build but not my first thread. I polished everything by hand. The left fork leg took about 2 hours and same for the right fork leg. The engine took about 6 hours total and it only looks decent... Not super shiny. I want a bench grinder... My fingers will love me for that.

I used Mother's Mag & Alu polish with clean cloths and elbow grease :).

Really actually I'm flattered and glad to be of help. I wish I had the time to do a build like this, but with college and a full time job it's gonna have to wait until I graduate... :( I have so many ideas I want to try too. Seriously considering building a super-light cafe from a 2 stroke motocross bike....

But until I have the time and resources I get to live vicariously through builds like yours and ColoradoCJ's.

Keep up the great work, I wanna see a finished(ish) bike soon!
 
wow,imma have to take sum closeups of my bike and sum areas of interest i would like to try polishing first before buying replacement parts it just seems to me the parts are too far gone cosmetically from the previous owner. Im not sure ill load up sum photos so you can see them and yall let me know if their salvageable? Thank ya.

Wait, the aluminum foil only cleans rust, not polish. If you want to polish, get Mother's Mag & Alu polish and start rubbing with a cloth!
 
I sprayed the pink on yesterday. So I wet sanded today with 500 grit sand paper. Even smoother than before. Ready for paint!

I wet sanded the clear coat again on the seat as there were still some bumps.

by polishing i was just speakin out of tongue so to speak,sorry,lol. I mean cleaning up rusty areas of said bike. I have slight rust pits in the peg ends & other miscellaneous areas thruout the bike.

OK. I was just trying to be clear. I didn't want you to scratch up some parts! So only use the foil on chrome, nothing else.
 
Try evapo-rust or wood bleach both work great on rust. Wood bleach is much cheaper. terrylee

I think wood bleach was also called oxalic acid. You can find them for like $5 at Lowe's.

Here's an old Photoshop I did just for fun. I think it would look even cooler if I add some kind of logo or something in the bottom left corner...

In this picture, I made everything black and white but left the rim stripe red, blurred the background, and put lots of contrast. Not too bad for a 5 min Photoshop job.

What tank work were you doing there? Applying Bondo over the entire surface?
 
She's really starting to take shape FC, good stuff!

Bugger about the petcock, but is that just the washers maybe?
