If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

My new project, I will mostly use it to commute to work.
I never liked the look of this little bike stock but it was a low maintenance bike.Very usefull on the wallet when the other vehicule i use in the summer is a '79 bronco.
Here is a pic, still a couple of thing to do before the metalflake paintjob.

Cool, I have a strange fascination with the Savage and I don't know why, so I'll follow along :)

I've only ever seen one here and it was being ridden along the freeway...

I don't hate that pipe. Its pretty cool.

My dad had one of those. He got tired of the clip ons on his GB500 and got that. He got tired of the forward controls, combined with barely any rear suspension. He would see the bump or rail road crossing, but it was hard for him to get up off the seat on that one, then he got a single cylinder Honda Ascot, which he loved dearly. My Ex Wife has a Savage too. She is 4'-11, and choices are limited for a person that short.

There are certainly a lot of those around. Have fun with it. Looking forward to seeing progress.

Thanks guys,
I dont like the custom riding position for the same reasons as your father.I was able to put small hairpins springs under the seat.I hope to see little improvement.
The welding is almost done, yesterday i made a rear fender using two trailer fender.I had no choie to put a little sissy bar, I dont really like sissybar on a solo bike but need it to support the fender.
The engine is out, I have to fix two oil leak and to prime and paint the frame.
I will post pics this evening.

One thing I would do,is pull the clutch cover, and check your timing chain and tensioner.
The way theses were designed, the plunger could pop all the way out if your chain got to loose.
Also, there is a plug located under the valve cover that has an o-ring on it.the plug is for access to the head bolt, and if the o-ring fails,it can be mistaken for a head gasket leak.

Thanks for the tips,
Its in my plan to weld an extension on the camchain tensioner.
I have oil leaking by both crankcase cover, i will mod the tensioner and ungrade to a later model starter gear at the same time.I will adjust the valves too, I rode the savage for 2 years before the strip down with no problem except for the stock petcock wich i replaced for a yamaha.
Marc

Yes,
I made a solo seat pan after this pic was taken.
Will try to upload pics tonight, I stripped down the frame to the last bolt, primered and painted it today. The reassembly will began next week.

Looking good!

I thought these were belt drive? That rear sprocket looks like a chain drive to me... am I wrong?

You are not wrong, I switched to chain and sprockets using 1990 suzuki gsxr 1100 530 conversion sprockets.I can play with the gearing now.Time will tell if i made a good choice or not.

A little update,
paint is almost done, it was my first time using a spray gun, 2 part paint and metalflakes.
I shooted the metalflake with a modified undercoating gun.Cheap and amazing in the sun.
The color is a little too pink-purple to my taste but i only have 80$ invested in it.

She's lookin' pretty cool! Not my choice of colour either but looks like it worked well.

That thing looks awesome man. I dig the purple flake and the black together. If you could post some details on your rear fender that would be cool. I'm looking to add one like it also.

Thanks!

Thanks guys,
I made the fender from two trailer fenders, two half fenders welded together, I had no other choice all generic fender were too narrow or too wide. You can see in the previous post the sissybar that support the rear portion of the fender.
Marc

What final width did it come out to/what did you use as your front mounting points? I don't have access to a welder and I'm looking at rear fenders. Most I have found are 5" and 7" and I'm guessing yours came out to around 6"?

total width is 6.5'', for the front mounting a welded a piece of square angle at the bottom of the fender, rear is supported by a little sissybar.
