Swapping wheels ??????

Okay this is probably going to sound silly but here it goes.

I have a 81 GS750 with the stock mag wheels
According to the online spec sheets tire width is
Front 3.25 wide
Rear 4.00 wide

I have access to a set of nice spoked rims off of a 1975 Suzuki GT250.
According to the online spec sheets tire width is
Front 3.00 wide
Rear 3.50 wide

So I am not giving up a whole lot width wise.

Are these interchangeable?

Other than the obvious single rotor up front drum in the rear. They appear to mechanically fasten about the same.

I have seen on here before where people have modified the front for dual discs somehow but I cant find it now.

Also is there a way to just get a different rear hub laced up so you can still run the disc in the rear.

I am going for a cafe style and I really like the look of spoked rims, I know you have to run tube tires now and they are a bit more of a maintenance issue but I just love that look.

Is this a feasible swap?????

Thanks in advance for any help.

I think your issues will be hub width and axle diameter. Hub width can be addressed by making/finding the appropriate spacers. Axle diameter is more of a problem though. Cush drive is another potential issue. I don't know if your bike has it or if the wheels that you want to swap have it. Generally, it's a good thing to have. If your bike currently has it, you would probably want to keep it.

I agree, spokes look good.... And you could probably get those rims to fit your bike. A rear hub may swap right over... If the hub diameter and number of spoke holes is the same, otherwise different spoke length is necessary. The front wheel may have issues with axle diameter like drhach says, but disc spacing may be off as well. So to aviod all these potential problems, why not try to get a set of 77-78 GS 550, 750, 1000 wheels, they're spokes and bolt right on.

HMMMMM I have to agree. Well that was my next question what wheels would be a direct bolt on. Just figured I would ask to make sure since the 250 rims are just sitting in my barn. Oh well. I guess I will start looking for 77-78 550, 750, 1000 rims.

Thanks.

The 550 rears are drum which won't help you. 750 or 1000 is the ticket and the 1000 is the best because they are lighter alloy rims the 750 are steel. Should bolt right on to your bike. Don't worry about your dual disks all the hubs are drilled for dual disks. Dan

I've got this if your interested, from 77 gs750... and a matching rear wheel. A Bit rusty, but serviceable.

Swapping Wheels????

Swapping Wheels????

I have an 82 GS750E and would like to put spoke wheels on that.

I have found some wheels from a 79. Will these work? How can I find out?

thanks

They should do... unless someone has already done it the only way to be sure is to try it. You might have to mess around swapping bearings, axles etc.

Dan :)
