tarnish on filaments in wire jacket

Hi:

I am looking at putting on new connectors for my stator and so on.

trouble is he filaments seem oxidized way up into the insulator

is this a factor in fitting a new connector and will a simple cleaner fix it?

also why in heck would there appear to be verdigris on my connectors that I had previosuly clened up and put dielectric grease on

stuff was ten bucks or more for less than a good gob of toothpaste so i assumed it was good stuff.
