A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.
A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.
Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.
Your friend the mechanic seems to really know what he is doing.
I'm certain that his nut design was superior to the one that it replaced.

Hakim,
As always , nice to have an update on you and your bike. Good you've met some other GS'ers. 550's are nice bikes. The 1100GSX looks like someone has put alot of time and money into it. Take care.

In a place where parts are scarce and the places for help between point A and B can be quite far, I would run points anyway, and keep a spare set on the bike. The advantage of electronic ignition is the lack of maintenance, but I trust the ole points over electronic ignition and igniters anyday, less to go wrong, easy to fix.
I'm p*** off and some more kapchai (100cc) rider pass me, honking & with a kind of look smiling at me as I can only speed up the bike at 30mph. (I think i know him & think he recognize me because I always pass him on the highway - You wait I'll mark you).
.
Hakim,
Always nice to have you stop by and share your latest events of your journey. You could carry a rubber hammer and just smack the ignition cover once in a while.

love your updates too H! great stuff
glad to hear you fixed it pretty easily.
its a bummer when the parts that are to make the bike more reliable, make the bike less reliable.
now go find that 100cc dude and blast by him with a wave.![]()

What did you end up doing, I just bought a points setup of eBay, just to have, I think I want one bike with an old setup, going to save it for a bike with a kick start option as well. Will probably make some kind of light weight 4 stroke scrambler/enduro eventually, maybe a 2 stroke.
Sorry to hear about your father-in-law. Glad to see you got a good ride in, though. Looks like a beautiful place.
Nice to have you give us an update . I wish your father inlaw well. How is that new baby doing? Beautiful sight on your little tour. A good ride always clears my head from worries.

Hi Hakim,
I`ve enjoyed following this thread, following the ups and downs you have experienced keeping the bike on the road. And lots of photos too !. Sorry to hear about your father in law, but good that he has had the surgery, hope he makes a full recovery soon. Had to smile at what you said about him refusing to go to hospital and threatening to pick him up and take him. Had a similar situation with my dad today, he is 86 years old, stubborn as a mule !. Has to go to hospital next week for a heart check up but does`nt want to.
