    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I bought a new rubber strap for holding the battery in the battery box and bought a stainless steel brake line to replace my old front brake hose. Those two items were purchased off ebay- so it'll be a few days before they arrive.

Unless you have the led's aligned you might notice some numbers are brighter than others.
 
I left some gap between the LED's and the numbers. They all light up fully. Only one comes on at time, so slight differences aren't a big deal. It wasn't the prettiest repair- but was effective and didn't take long and didn't cost much.
Yours looks much nicer. The prewired LED's with resistors were too long to solder to the board and I just wanted to get 'ur done.
 
Maybe next time I'll solder the lamps to the board instead of the RTV glue method. Anyhow, I'm moving on. I've already had the gauges out about four times. I've got other issues to resolve like horn relay and reg/rec. I want to ride.
 
I ended up with flat top 20000mcd 120 degree viewing angle LED's in mine and they've been great.
 
I don't know the specs on the LED's. They cost five dollars for ten prewired with resistors with free shipping from the orient somewhere. They might move around a little in there? I don't care about perfection. They didn't seem to give off any noticible heat- so I think they'll be fine. I realize now that I could have cut the wires and soldered em to the board and used a single resistor attached to the orange wire. Oh well. Maybe next time. Installed the way I did it they are much closer to the numbers and maybe brighter? Don't know. They all work now and that was the objective. If more than two fail, I'll go back in there- otherwise it'll remain as is. I've had so many bikes with only neutral indicators and never needed gear indicators anyways. My gut feeling is they'll outlast the bike!
I'll take photos of 1-6 if anybody is interested in the lights. The number two had a hole melted in the center. Don't know how that happened. A dab of black RTV covered that burn hole.
 
I'm hoping to get a ride on this bike in the next couple of days. Way too much time invested in this old heap already and not a single ride yet!
 
I suppose by forum rules I need to post pics of those indicators or they don't work. The numbers aren't perfect but they'll be just fine.

Didn't get a whole lot done today, Studied the toyota relay box wires, added some top secret security function, trimmed down the reg/rec mounting plate and painted the relay fuse mounting plate

No the red and also the black which share that plastic loom are wires to the horn. I have to add a horn relay cause there's too much resistance on the ground through the horn button to do it the original method direct to horn.

Breaking down on the side of the road or having some mechanical problem is enevitable. At some point in time it'll happen. While I'm doin' electrical mods- I think I'll add a battery powered four way flasher provision!

I've added a horn relay, 4 way flashers and a power relay for the common hot wire after ignition switch (yellow wire), illuminated voltmeter, regulator/rectifier change and aux power plug.

Good idea with the fuse block etc. but... why put the volt meter under there? If your R/R starts to fail and go above 15v you won't know it...
 
It's true that under there- I can't see it when my eyes are on the road. I put it under there 1)to keep it out of the weather and 2)to keep the instruments uncluttered.
Without the airbox there was plenty of room "down under". I could add one within sight also- just haven't found any that I like yet.
A high voltage warning lamp led would a cool idea that would light up if voltage exceeds 14.5 vdc..just a thought and not sure how make such a thing that would work.
Do you have any voltage indication on yours?
 
A small waterproof digital display would be great. I'm looking now. It would be easy to wire by tapping power and ground off the horn relay located near the front forks.
