If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

The tossed 78 GS1000 rebuild thread.

My Gosh!! You're flying through the rebuild and doing an excellent job. Really like the wire wheels, really sets it off. Keep up the great work. Ray

A really fine job son. Let's get the carbs sorted on both of our bikes and we'll be riding instead of wrenching. The guys on the GSR will be very impressed when they see the finished product. I know I was!

Didn't make the dead line for the Mid-Ohio show so I went and the bike didn't. It was together but not running well enough. I think I've gotten the majority of it figured out. So here's what the finished (for now) product.

She looks great. I still have things I want to do soon like mounting an oil cooler, Dyna S ignition system, get the wheels sent off and replaced with stainless spokes, fork brace, V&H exhaust and a different seat. So keep an eye out for future progress.

Awesome work!

....sooo, what kind of shocks are those? Where did you get them?

Thanks! They have no brand name on them. A member here (Salty_monk) came across a couple sets and I bought one from him. I assume they are just some Chinese knock-offs but they perform well enough and are rebuildable.

I have another set that are eye to eye if anyone wants them... :)

1 year update. It's been nearly a year since I got the GS on the road again so I thought I would post and let you know what's been going on with her. She's gotten some more modifications; Dyna S ignition, different mirrors, some Sport Demon tires, Electrosport stator and R1 Mosfet R/R and now thanks to Chuck a V&H exhaust to replace the rusty, beat up Kerker. The carbs were also rebuilt and finally jetted correctly by yours truly.

Some pics!
Here she is in touring mode for the wife and I's trip to Mississippi.

There are still plans in the works so stay tuned for more updates.

Looking great

Looking great

How about the addition of a flyscreen like I sent Colin for his bike? Alternatively, a larger screen put on for touring duties can be a big help on a trip but a bit too fugly for me to keep on the bike all the time.

Dad

The trip to MS made me wish I had a fairing of some sort up there. At least something for trips. I may hunt down one of the 'S' fairings for it.

Hey, post a pic with the Metamachex swinger we put on!

Mid-Ohio photo?

Mid-Ohio photo?

That's at the AMA Vintage Days, right? Looks like the parking area.

Is it me or does it look like #4 is a little on the hot side?

edit...actually, looking at later pics, it appears that it burning all four...

That would be #1 and it looks darker than it is. Carbs were still being fine tuned. Just rebuilt them.

Update: She's gotten another paint job, this time with some pearls in the paint. The copper in the black really pops in the right light. The engine has been punched out to an 1100 and fitted with a Deraile cooler. The carbs were gone through again and then K&N pods were added. An underseat electronics panel was made up and the R1 MOSFET R/R, Eastern Beaver fuse block and relays found their way there.
