yup thats them...and the cross member right above them...if you cut that frame right behind the shock tabs..youll have room to run your fender...dunno if you are useing a glass or metal fender but run some nice stainless bolts thru those mounting tabs and then mount an L bracket on your fender and drill a hole thru that cross member and run a bolt thru it...your seat will cover it and you'll never see it. whatdya think?? If ya dont like that i have a couple more ideas but ill have to mill them over a bit looking at this.

Well we've prefitted it and I think that those holes aren't gonna be anywhere close to the fender. I think struts are gonna be in order

even then you could still use those...get some nice metal cut and and maybe get it chromed or black it out...then use some bushings/spacers on those holes...run your struts back your fender and voila! you could actually even use the ones below it too...i can see it...i just would have to draw it up...

May I suggest MS paint lol. yeah I got some ideas about struts. But I'm looking at the frame and I'm think its gonna be to much with struts and the frame rails sticking out way back there like that. What do you think. Should I hack those frame rails? I don't think they're vital at all. Actually I think they won't even come close to the fender anyways........... **** scratch that. I just remembered something important. We prefitted the fender WITHOUT lowering the bike to the height its gonna be after I cut the coils.

I gotta hit the rack broseph...gotta get an early start and i need at least 3 hours or im gonna be worthless...gota hit UPS, Find some POH acid for my tank, or buy a POR kit...try to switch this ignition over ( i still cant find my key to my old one) and the top tree clamp. Then try and finish up that tank...I got that antique brass today...its gonna look sweet! What do you think for this for a name...sort of a knock off of the old honda Black Bomber....the Brass Bomber?? No? I dunno i need a name...

Hack those bastards off...it will look like crap if theyare sticking out over your fender...

lemme play with some ideas...id would help to see the fender...cos im picturing some low slung skirt type fender? is that what you're getting?

Brass Bombshell.... I'll hack those bastards off then lol.... eh its more of a kinda upskirt fender. Its not really low slung. I'll post a pic when the sun comes up. Laters man

Alright brother man here's those pics you requested

Essential just the same pic

Dude...you can see how to do it :P use the old lines! make some struts like you said, but i think you'll have to run it INSIDE the frame...which kinda sucks....UNLESS..you chop the holy sh!t out of the rear of that thing...like as much as mine is if not more...

I was thinking about using those original lines but it involves making super custom brackets. But that's alright because I found my new calling in life.... Turns out that my university offers metalworking as a degree. So I'm now going for a degree in Graphic Design and a minor in metalworking. I'll get access to all of the university's tools

Sweet, ill be buggin the sh!te out of you for stuff all the time! lol

Man ive had an up and down day...Got your stuff out btw...I wasnt so worried about that key cos i was just going to replace the top tree clamp with the one off that 80...and i checked before i did it, they looked like they were exactly the same... just had an ignition switch mounted to it (with a key) so i pull my top tree apart...and the other is like a C*NT hair different. I was SOOO ****ed. i thought i was totaly F-ed. But i found my key, so that crisis averted. Now to make some damn copies of it...lol. But in my frustration, i did a bunch of ****e to the bike today, cos if i didnt have the key and i couldnt start her, then i was tearing her down for winter...fvck it i thought. I pulled the header off, which ive been putting off for ever, for fear my bolts would be stuck..they werent thank god. Dumped all the oil out of her. Smelled a touch gassy but not bad. had to REALLY smell to smell gas. I was damn near ready to yank the engine out of her and take it to the manhole when i found the key. So now i have new projects..since the header is off, and i have to take it off to change the filter, im waiting on a filter. And a baffle for my pipe...I bought a set of calipers today and re-did my float settings. 2 and 3 were WAY off...thats what i get for using a friggin ruler. No wonder i was rich on those and my fuel line kept emptying. they were off a good 3mm..not good. So since i had my header off, and i didnt feel like playing with my cafe tank anymore tonight, i wrapped my header in header wrap...looks sweet. Not only do i think it looks kool, but it will actually save my header from getting crapped out from road rot. ROCKIN. I also bought a cheapo autozone compression tester...and while i had my carbs and exhaust off, i still read even numbers across the board so thats good. Tried dickin with my timing, but it started getting dark on me, and i hadnt found that key yet so it was pointless cos i wouldnt be able to check it.

Sweet! I'm gonna be needing those bars soon...... Ah **** is float setting one of those PITA things i'm gonna have to worry about also? Or is it just VM carb thing?...... Hmm I'm in decisive about header wrap. It kills headers quick. The metal will start to become brittle and rust sooner because the heat is kept in. But MEH if it looks good then thats all that matters!.... Still need to get around to checking the compression on my sh!t. Hopefully it isn't gonna be one of those things were I do all this work on the bike and then the compression is WAY down

Yeah you better worry bout those float levels...thats an every carb thing. if they arent set right the valves wont shut when they are supposed to and you start flodding cylinders....or if they are set to low they shut off too soon and you starve...causing leanness and burnt valves...theyre easy to set, you just have to be particular with it. Go to autozone and get some digi dial calipers, use the depth gauge...the calipers i bought were like 25 bucks.

How do I actually go about adjusting them? There really isn't any type of screw or anything that I notice it can be adjusted with.

Use a set of calipers (you can get em at autozone for about 30 bucks) use the depth gauge that comes out of the end...you'll have to find out what the floats are supposed to be set at...ask Nessim..hes the 550 guru...turn the carbs upside down and remove the float bowl and the gasket..if you're carefull you can reuse the gasket. Measure with the calipers from the float gasket seat to the top of your float. If its off you'll need to adjust...Example...mine are supposed to be set at 26mm ..if they were at 23mm i need to raise them 3mm...the lil metal tang that sits on the float needle valve is where you adjust, simply bend it untill its right...but remember its upside down. so bending it up is LOWERING your floats, and bending it down is raising them. Avoid bending the tangs the floats are attached to, as you'll get inacurate results. its pretty simple and small bend adjustments are all you need usually. Just be very mindfull they are set right..otherwise bad things will happen. And when you measure, make certain that you arent moving the floats with your calipers...or they'll be inacurate as well. You just want the caliper to barely touch it.

Ah thanks much for that. I'll have to pay attention to that tomorrow when I finish rebuilding the carbs. I just finished wet sanding and buffing the front fender. I must say it does look exceptional. Lol well for a rattle can paint job. I'll get a pic up in a moment
