This is why I wear a face shield

My face shield is tinted, and I don't do much motorcycle riding at night. But I do have some goggles in my frontbag just in case.

Well last night I was on my way home from The Biker Church, so I had my goggles on and my faceshield up.

I took a number of bugs to the face, including this one:

I prefer sunglasses under a clear visor. Especially since I have prescription, polarized shades.

I learned a similar lesson about face/eye protection on the mountain bike. A leaf from a branch I never saw ran right across my cheek. I've never been on a trail since without safety glasses.

Nice! Wonder what it was?

Ever get caught in a hale storm? Not fun!

I was out west in New Mexico, middle of the night and had some big honkin bug hit my chest. It felt like it was a softball. It was about the size of a himming bird. The next day heading down into Phoenix Az. a bird hit my helmet right in the shield, so full face is for me.

I should have taken a picture. I showed my wife what would have been a direct hit to my right eye, on my face-shield. just two days ago!
ATGATT! ;)

I'm with Dogma on this. I have a pair of prescription sunnys I wear under the shield. It's easier to carry another pair of glasses in a case than try to carry another shield. Once you go full face, you don't go back. Still trying to get my dad to pick one up. I wouldn't be without it.

I often wonder if the guys/girls that DO NOT wear gloves, Jackets and Full-face helmets...
actually RIDE their bikes? (in the real world, anyway ;))

Going across town on the interstate the other day, with trucks all around and construction all over the place, all kinds of things hitting me in the head. Rocks and bolts and things it felt like. Wondering where it all was coming from.
And some clowny goes the other way on a yellow sportbike of some sort, wearing nothing on the eyes or anywhere else except shorts and flip flops....

I could see him squinting and holding his head sideways.

Got dive bombed the other day, thanks to my windshield or I would have been covered. The bird timmed it perfectly and it was nice and wet.
I dont wear a full face with the windshield but would if my bike didnt have 1. During this heat wave I have been ridding in just a Tee and jeans.

I took out a buzzard head on into the face shield about four years ago. I remember it well. :) I watched the remains of el buzzard in my mirrors as he tumbled head over tail after he slid off the top of my helmet. He crashed on the asphalt behind me. Sure messed up a perfectly good shield and jacket though. LOL

Took a june bug to the adam's apple a few year back. Had to pull over real fast and sit down to catch my breath. Felt like I had been punched in the neck.

Granted, my face shield didn't help me with that one...

How fast were you going? Buzzards are not small birds. Ive heard guys getting their necks broken hitting big birds like that... You were lucky!

I took a sparrow to the helmet at 80 mph on the way to work one day many years ago. He hit dead center just above my faceshield. I had to pull off to the shoulder and pull my s**t back together before I could go on. He rung my chimes big time and smeared himself across the top of my helmet.

Just today, I caught a rock on my left hand that had been tossed up by a car coming the opposite direction. It stung like hell but was a good reminder why my minimum riding gear is heavy pants, boots, padded gloves, leather jacket and full-face helmet with face shield. It's hard when the weather hits the 90's. Shorts, tee shirt, tennis shoes and helmet would feel better but it feels disrespectful of the sport I love, not to mention the body to which I am rather attached.;)

I got an experience that happend last weekend. After I got done riding for 30 mins to my friends place I felt pain in my upper left side of my chest. I took off my shirt and found a small nat sized bug went through my polo shirt and was embedded in my skin. Left a tiny blister like pipple. First time this has ever happend. I couldn't believe it hurt some much from such tiny prick.

I was cruising down a two lane blacktop at about 55-60 mph. It was about like getting a really good swing in the face with a tennis racquet. :)

Took a small pebble to the knee cap, square on. felt like I got shot by a .22, hurt like mad.

I watched a guy hit a chicken, that was a mess. Feathers and chicken parts everywhere and it stank on the engine and pipes. Pieces of the bird ended up on us following him.
