Ok, so I need to put some new rubber on my 650 and I've narrowed it down to 4 different types of tires. And they are all matching sets.

1. Shinko 230 Tour Masters
-110/90v19 FRT, 130/90v17 Rear
2. Dunlop D404 Metric Cruiser
-110/90h19 FRT, 130/90h17 Rear
3. Kenda K671 Cruiser ST
-100/90h19 FRT, 130/70h17 Rear
4. Kenda K657 Challenger
-110/90h19 Frt, 130/90h17 Rear

I'm currently runnin a 110/90V19 up front and a 130/80V17. Any and all opinions are accepted. Thanks.

It's not one of your final four, but look at the Avon Roadriders...
Lots of happy users on this board...

There are tons of tire threads in the archives so you might want to check by using the search function.

My comment is to say you should not use a 110 front, it's too wide for the rim. And for the back, a 90 series is what you should use since it's a better match to the narrow rims than lower profile tires. Yes, yes, we know that some people do differently, but that doesn't make it right.

I had clearance issues with a 100 width front on my 650g, some tires are wider than others. For my 650g, I am running a 3.25 avon front and a 120/90/17 rear.

The 110 frt I'm runnin now is the second tire I've had put on. Haven't had any issues on clearance. not sure if the first tire was a 110 or 100. I will def. consider any of the 130/90s i've selected instead of the 130/70.

I will also be buying tires for a 1983 GS650G. I currently have a Metzler ME33 3.50-19 front and a Metzler ME88 130/90-17 rear with no issues. I can almost get a finger between the edge of the rear tire and the swing arm.

The OE tires were 3.25H19 and 4.25H17. Bridgestone recommends 100/90 front and 110/90 rear, but it looks like their 130/90 would fit too.

So after long hours of staring at the tires, and reading reviews and history of them all, I've come to a decision. I've ordered a matching set of Shinko Tourmasters for my G. Even though I'm not gonna hit V-reated speed, I think they'll be perfect for me. Also, they are made by the Yokohama tire company. I've got a set of their Avid T4s on my S10 and they handle perfectly.

Too bad I won't be able to try them out for three more months.

Just because there is still room to the swingarm does not mean that it's a proper tire.

You also have to consider whether there is enough rim width to properly support the width of the tire. :-\\\

.

Huge fan of Avon Roadriders, incredible tire for a good price, but whatever tire you go with, use the proper size. 90/90-19 and 110 or 120/90 18 will let it handle like it was intended, not like an overloaded dogsled.
Fat tires are for Winnebagos and Harelys, and other ill handling junk.

Almost true, there, tkent. :-\\\

His 650 has a 17" rear and is probably good for the 120 width.

Although a 90/90-19 is the proper front tire, many of us do suffer the slightly slower handling imposed by a 100/90-19. :-k
The big advantage is that the larger tire virtually eliminates the excessive optimism in the speedometer.

I am in the same boat. The only tires I can find to perfectly match what was on the gs650g are the IRC Duro Tour @ 72$ ea, I need to know if I can go a little wider on the rear without problems.
F 3.25x19 = 100/90 19
R 4.25x17= 110/90 17

Can I go with a 120 or 130-17 or will it be too wide?

I run a 120 on the rear of my 850. When I put a 130 on it was fine until the center tread wore down, then it got real noisy and hard to handle. It was the same style I've been using (Pirelli MT90 Scorpion, now Scorpion Trail dual sport), but the rim width was too narrow and made the tire wear badly. I only got about 7k miles out of it, and I normally will get 10k out of the rear in the Pirelli series I buy and close to 20k out of the front. I buy from Motorcycle Superstore, free shipping on orders over $75.00.

My vote goes for the Shinko's I used the 712's but I'm still loving them... They work great on my GS700ES In all weather conditions.. They even got tried out in the snow LOL and worked well...

So am I to understand that Kenda is the only one who builds a matching set with a 100/90 front? I have heard a lot about the Shinko and liked the price but cannot seem to find the correct combination of front and rear for gs650g:mad:

Get a 120/90-17 rear. A 130 would fit the rim as well but I'm not sure about clearance inside the swingarm.
