A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm looking for some information on new tires, I just bought a 1982 gs850gl and it's my first bike. I'm just looking for some suggestions on what to look for or what tires people use. I live in north Florida so it's hot humid and rains a lot so I need a tire that has decent wet traction. The tire sizes I'm working with are: Front 100/90x19 Rear 140/90x16. Thanks in advance for any tips.

The correct sizes for your bike are 100/90-19 front and 130/90-16 rear. Not sure why there's a 140 on there, but you know what they say about POs.

Anyhoo:

Dunlop Elite III -- lasts a loooong time, expensive, work great. They use olde-fashioned letter sizing, so you'll want MM90-19 front, MT90-16 rear.

Avon RoadRider -- sticky, last pretty well, not quite as expensive.

Shinko 230 -- sticky, don't last too long, very inexpensive. Great tire for the money, but not long-lived if you ride a lot. The Shinko 712 works pretty well, too

There are many others -- Bridgestone BT-45, Michelin Pilot Activ, and Continental has a new tire for vintage bikes -- not sure if they make your sizes.

I'd avoid the Dunlop 404.

Do a search if you feel like reading endless repetitive discussions of tires...

I have Dunlop E3s on my Wing, they last almost forever. I have had three sets that went 20-23,000 miles each.
Then went through two sets of Michelin Pilot GT (a Wing-exclusive tire), they are discontinued, so I am back on E3.
Great tire, but like Brian said, not cheap.

Most, if not all, of our GSes are on Shinko 230s. Have not had them on long enough to see what life there is in them,
but we don't ride as hard as Brian does, so they might last a bit longer. :-\\\

I have a set of Bridgestone Spitfire's on my "G" presently and have had good luck with them. Presdently they have been on a little over 9k and looks like I may have another couple of thousand left in em. The performance champions for me are the Michelin Pilot Activ's, those suckers were great and lasted 16k mi. When the Brigestones filally play out I'm going back to the Michelin's, even though they are pricy at about $ 230.00 a set if you figure in the cost per mile there a bargain.

Cheers

You won't find any better advice than that.
