Tonight the old Gal went 6.92 at 101.90

Put a few gallons of 103 gas in her and only got 6 runs out of her until I broke, well lost my left foot peg at 100 mph. So my best ET was 6.92 at 101.90 at our 1/8 track. I know if I could of kept running 6.80's were mine, oh well there's always next friday.

The longer swingarm work out great. I just need alittle more time with this set up to get more aggressive. My 60ft was only 1.73 and I think 60's should'nt be a problem in a few weeks. All my runs felt as if I was riding in a Cadilac. I did'nt even wheelie once and did a John Force burn out when I launch for about 30 feet.... Man I can't wait until I get a slick on this thing cause I know low 6's are mine.

You guys might get tired of me from all my posts, but I really enjoy racing even if it's .001 off the slip.

I never get tired of your dragrace adventures :D was this the first time you got into the 6'es?

I am sure we all would enjoy an mpeg clip of one of your runs if you have a digital video recorder.

Congratulations Jake! I want to hear all about your drag racing experiences! I'll be at the track next Saturday (27th) and I am hoping to get my 77 GS750B into the 7's, so I share in your excitement!

BTW, I won a set of Tarrozzi rearsets on ebay that were for a GS1000. I managed to make one work on the shifter side, which is really all I wanted, so I have the other with a short linkage for the brake (which the splines do not match at all (the 1000 spline must have finer teeth). Anyway, if anyone wants to try this part out, let me know. I can send pics of what I have left.

Take care, ride safe, and God Bless you all!

anyone know what the 1980-81 GS1100E (stock) would do?

In the 1/4 mile about 11.00 flat
It was rated as the fastest bike never to run in the 10's

Hello Ryan I finally got in the 6's for the first time and I like it.
8)
You guys up north have gotten hamered with all that snow again, one day 60 degrees and the next snow. I don't know how you can take it. So can you tell me what type of mods you are you doing to your ride. That sure is one pretty bike you got there. I think you got more money in that paint job than I have in my whole bike. I'd be afraid to work on it and scratch that paint job.

I got a question about your wheelie bars, How high are the wheels from the ground when the bike is level. I'm thinking 2 inches from the very bottom of the wheel to the ground should be right-----I think????

Jake

Jake, great going! Following what you are up to is better than following the AMA supers! Let us all know what the old GS can get up to. I don't subject my poor old girl to such things as it is still on all the original bottom end parts, so I want it to last a bit...

Well the bottom end on mine is all stock along with oem modified clutch Suzuki came out with. What I find amasing is that I've got over 300 runs on this clutch assy in the past year plus all the thousand miles I put on the bike and the clutch does'nt even slip nor had I had to adjust the cable more than one time.

I'm almost afraid to change it sence it's working so good.

I was always told to start with the bars 2" from the ground when running a slick. If the bars are too high the bike will bounce as it loads and unloads the rear tire. If the bars are too low it will make the rear tire spin. Make sure to set the bars with the tire pressure you will be running. I would think with a street tire the bike wont squat as much and you will have to run the bars a little lower. If you can, get someone to tape your run, and then you can see exactly what the bike does when it leaves. Oh and definently post it for us.

I want to run in the 9's this year. I took of the stock head and started work on another head I have. I ported the head myself using a C+W head as a template. Then I gave the head to a local machine show, that is will known with the car guys. He put in oversized intake and exhaust valves that I got from gast. Then I put in ape springs and ape titanium retainers. I picked up a set of 325 lift megacycle cams. I traded another racer for a set of new 355 lift megacycle cams. Of course I already had the wiseco low compression kit. I then had a firefighter at work weld me up a custom aluminum catch can to go in front of my battery box. This should look better than the plastic oil container I was using. I'm also switching to a ward top end oiler this year. I went to cometic and talked to them about blowing out the base gasket and not waning to run a copper gasket. It turns out they are coming out with a spring steel covered in rubber gasket some time next month. They went ahead and cut me one. So I will be trying that. I decided to take off the 36 mikuni carbs and try the 38 mikuni's I have. Last year when I put the pistons in I had to pull the needles all the way up and go up 2 sizes on the pilot jets. I think it just wants more carb. I've also gotten soeme input from the stie her that 38's shouldn't be too big. I will try to post some pics.

Gosh Ryan you do got alot going on, Good Luck! I think the head should do the trick and put you deep in the 9's or better.

I was thinking of buying a stage II head from a friend but I'll wait until fall before changing the head. I'm going to install a slick and bars in the next few weeks and get that all sorted out this year. I might have to change the clutch and get a lockup with soft springs cause from what I hear thats the way to go to get a great 60ft.

Thanks for the tips on the bars too.

I don't get tired of reading your posts. But your putting the heat on me now. I think your a good half second faster than my old GS now. I am thinking to take it to one of the local tracks this year now that I have been over it and see how it runs. Both tracks are a full quarter. I'll check into it to see if they record the half point so we can compare.

Ryan, nice looking ride. I like the oil can. Won't your track let you use a Pepsi bottle? Do you ever make it up north to Martin?

Never get tired of it buddy :)
Keep um coming.
And I second the video clip thing.

On the clutch thing, I should perhaps add that I have gone through two clutch basket assemblies. The original got the dreaded death ratlle from loose rivets and springs. I had it strengthened and riveted, that lasted a few months. Got it done again, that is what I have now.....I think the 1085 stage 3 motor stressed the clutch a little, so any weknesses show themselves quickly, and hopefully it lasts otherwise!

great job jake , My best was 6.84 at 107.92 but that was geared for the 1/4 not the 1/8 and I had that tiny 130 stock tire and stock street chassie. Next week you will blow by my 6.84 but my 107.92 may be safe for a little while. seat time is everthing when you are workin the 60 ft times down. if you are still spinning the tire you may try less air or some VHT traction compound. dont be afraid to slip you clutch untill you get that big slick then the fun begins

Thanks Skip for the encouragement

With the old swingarm the bike would wheelie off the line if i was too aggressive with throttle and right past the tree if I cranked on full throttle, the front end is strap down too. Even 2nd to 3rd gear shift I'd feel a little front wheel wobble. With this longer swingarm I don't fill the front end coming up and the ride was nice and smooth between shifts. So I hoping to get on the gas alot harder now.

I just heard from the guy I was going to buy his stage II head that he thrown a rod out his S/C bike on Sat and has alot of damage. Looks like he going to need it after all to get his other bike up and running.

I'm thinking of using the GSXR 750 or 1100 oil cooled head. From what I hear they flow just as good as a ported GS head and might be cheaper.

As soon as I can find somebody with a digtal camera I'll post it
