Twinpot Brake upgrade on 78 Skunk

Another member of the Salty_Monk twinpot conversion team. I borrowed the stainless lines that were on it for another project but you get the drift.
I have not had the bike out so i cannot comment on the braking improvement, YET.

These are the kind of rotors I was looking to buy. Same design. Different than the ones I was told would work. I take it they fit fine. The ones I had in mind are 1995 f3 rotors, with the same look as these ones.

Well Steve has fitted them but they are different to the ones I use... The only thing I don't know is if the offset is the same, the rest certainly seems to be.

Dan :)

Well, maybe I will go ahead and buy them and if they dont work, resell them.

It must be feasible to fit them as Steve has done it.... just be sure to check clearances very carefully once you have it all fitted.

Dan :)

Gearhead, i bought these rotors from a guy in Canada that said they were from his '95 F3. The spacers included by Salty provided the proper offset in my case. A VERY light grind with a Dremel and they fit the hub perfectly. The speedo drive dust shield needs approx 1/8" removed as well.
I have not ridden the bike yet[insurance woes, again] so i cannot give a report. They sure do look great.

That all sounds normal Steve.. I think i might try to get a set of those for research purposes! :D

Any info on differences in fitting with my Canadian model '82 GSX750EZ with this upgrade?

I don't think there should be any... I'm not 100% cause nobody has tried it but I think so....

Have a measure up against image below. I believe the caliper mounting bolt space & rotor offsets are the same dimensions so it should work.....

The calipers that say 'tokico' on them are ok? Says from a '94 zx600.

You need to look for the shape of the rear bracket.. that is the biggest telltale. I suspect the ones you're talking about are the opposed piston ones from a later model. They won't work.

These are the wrong ones:

These are the right ones:

That bike only has one side though....

Here's a set in your country:

and another

Should be easy enough to find.

Dan :)

Thanks for the help, man 39 pages of calipers to look through, and I hate the guys that sell right and left seperatly.
BTW Ohio and Florida arent in Canada:rolleyes:;)

You got me there... I just looked them up on Ebay Canada, didn't even check the locations :D

You can search for approx 1986 to 1989 that will thin out the search.... also maybe by model.

Dan :)

Bump for this thread.... about time some more people did this upgrade!

Dan :)

I got my rotors($41) and calipers($22) on ebay for a good price after a couple of last second bids. Just short on cash for the kit after buying a new project bike:cool:.

I was down at the local cycle salvage place last week, and they had a couple sets of f3 rotors hanging on the wall, so I asked how much? He said $100 and I said for the pair? He said each:eek::eek: Granted they looked nice but I got my pair for $41 off ebay. My jaw dropped to the floor. LMAO

Yes.. you need to shop around for all these parts in order to get good prices. I paid about $70-80 a set for the ones I have.

Dan :)

I find the GSXR Nissin 4 piston calipers all the time for less than 50 bucks a pair. Even the Tokico 6 pistons are getting cheap. Ray.

Yes, all that stock stuff is coming down in price. These brackets don't work with those calipers though, you'd need a much more complex stepped bracket to make them fit, the 6 piston calipers would need cross drilled spacers as they're the ones that are radially mounted I believe.

These brackets work only with the Kawasaki Twinpot calipers. Sliding type. Not opposed piston.

Dan :)

Rotors and calipers all cleaned up and ready to go, just waiting for the adapter parts.

They look nice! Brackets are anodised but you probably want to polish them to match your calipers for best look I would say...
