A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Tyre Valve

Forum Newbie
Hi
Does anyone know the tyre valve size i need for my 1980 GS850GT, also can i use one of the new tool kits you can buy online to fit the new valve, the kit allows you to fit the tyre valve and you don't have to remove the tyre.
help

I've not seen nor heard of this yet, hard to imagine putting it in from the outside, seems the part broke off and rolling around inside the tire would throw it way out of balance... Let me search this out a little bit... Oh yeah, before I forget, WELCOME

I should think you have a tube type no? At least on the front (from memory the 80G’s had tubeless on the rear only).
I don’t see how you can fit from the outside either… :)

Above, Two different ways to replace a valve without removing the tyre,

Neither is a replacement for taking the tyre off and cleaning the valve seat, anyway.
The first one looks good for an emergency replacement at the side of the road, and I'd have one in my toolkit for sure, if I remember to get one.
The second one is more car oriented and lost all cred with me when he used dish soap as a lube - dish soap contains a lot of salt, you can imagine what that does to your rim.

Lost all cred with you, then use whatever you wish, plenty of stuff out there to use, plus road are full of salt in Ireland.

Both mine are tubeless, to tell the truth i never knew that some GS 850G had a tubeless at rear and a tube up front.

I believe the fronts only became tubeless in 82. Some people convert (although you still don’t have a tyre retaining bump but it seems to work if you use the right stepped cutter to flatten the area around the hole).
