If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Uncle Mike's BIKE Dead on Chicago Expressway - Coil question

O.K. guys, here's the deal. I can get Mike to verify that the O/G wire is not getting any power. Short of getting another fuse block, we could bypass the fuse block for that one particular wire by using an inline fuse from the Orange to the O/G at the fuse block. It needs to be fused b/c we have not yet determined if there is a short or not. I doubt it, but of course it must be tested first. Steve, are you interested/have the skills? Remember, this bike has thousands of miles that need to be traveled on this patch.
The best solution, if the fuse block is bad, is to install another 1100E fuse block (loaner) in its place.
Second best solution would be to disassemble the fuse block and fix the issue internally.
Mike, you need to take your battery to an auto parts store and have it tested. I suspect it is faulty.

As far as I can tell, the High Beam indicator is the only light in the gauge cluster working. Tach and gear indicator are both out as well. No brake light or signals. I didn't check the license plate light though.

Yes, Signal Org/Grn supplys power to those things.

If you want to verify that the problem with the tail lighht and brake light is not the ground, you could do this: Turn Ignition to Park position (all way to right), that then takes power from main red to opertate the tail light. IF tail light comes on then you know the ground for tail light is good (and bulb is good).
But you got other things out that have different ground.

High Beam indicator is powered by the Headlight fuse, so, as far as fuse circuits go, the highbeam indicator is not an instrument on the instrument fuse Org/Grn wire. Which is why it works.

Yah, Org/Grn comes out of fuse block and goes to multiple connetors, and you are missing things from more than one of those connectors. So, yah, fuse block or org/green wire from the fuse block is a good suspect.

Thanks for the verification Dave. If that is the issue, any ideas on how to rectify it? I posted mine. I am concerned about jumping that with an inline fuse then going back to stock. I guess he could pull the fuse to bypass the bypass when he goes back to stock.
If his wiring harness is anything like my 1100E, things are going to be really tight in there.

Pull the fuse, run a 10A fused wire from aux on the fuse panel and piggy back it at the butt connector (O/G?) powering the brake light switch.

If it is the fuse box, I would be willing to pull the fuse box from my 1100E and let him have it, if someone is willing to come get it and take it to him, as I don't think I can get away today.

I can find another on eBay or something later.

Mike where exactly in Chicago are you in case I can get there tomorrow?

Wow guys, I'm impressed even if I don't understand galf of what you're saying. I'm in Old Town on N. Mohawk St. And of course, I will happily replace any donated parts.

I have an idea. Give me a bit of time, I think I have a solution.
Back in a few, as soon as I get in touch with Mike.

OK...let us know. Otherwise I will figure a way to get my fuse box to him.
Mike, PM me the street address where you are at and cell number, just in case.

Thanks Bob. There will be a slight delay ( 1+ hours ) while Mike makes a supply run.

George...I am guessing you are going to tap the Aux terminal with an in-line fuse?

Yes, I can handle it, and have time through the latter part of the afternoon (though my kids will be stuck with me unless I can find an alternate destination for them - I'll work on that). Is Mike working inside a garage or outside ... it's currently pouring rain by me. I can go retrieve Mike AND the bike if necessary and get them to my garage.

I could make the long loop to pickup the fuse box if that is determined to be the best solution. Again, need to deal with the "kid situation" so they're not stuck with me unnecessarily, but will figure that out if we proceed this way.

Regards,

No need for that Steve...
If he needs the box, I'll go straight out with it. You could just head straight there to help Mike pull it all together, as I won't be able to stay long.

No need for anyone but Mike to travel today. Status in next post.
That sounds promising! Who needs housecalls when they've got Dr. George C. Icanfixitbyphoneandinternet on the case? :D;)

Looking forward to that post!

Current Status

Current Status

Mike's battery was dead, he now owns a new one.
He has all the materials and tools he needs to:
Test the wiring harness for any shorts.
If no shorts present, I have designed a circuit that should get him back on the road. Together he and I should be able to implement and test the circuit.

Please note, that is a pretty big "If". We won't know anything about the harness until we test it, but the test circuit will be fuse protected, so if there is a short it won't take anything else out with it. If there is an Open somewhere upstream, we will have to step back and re-assess.

Okay, parts have been acquired and I've managed to make it back. Driving anywhere in Chicago seems to take quite a long time.

I have yet to eat or take care of any of my daily duties, so I'm going to grab something, hop in the shower and then tackle this wiring mess.

Updates to follow at the situation warrants.

Thank you again to everyone who has contributed here.
