VM carb fuel leak

79 GS 750 E VM carbs

So i rebuilt my carbs. Did not replace the factory fuel connectors. Turned the fuel to PRI and fuel was pouring out from the both connectors and the T. I ordered new parts from Z1 and broke the carbs apart and replaced the connectors. Put everything back on the bike. Hooked everything up. Turned fuel to PRI and after a few seconds fuel is dumping out of the overflow tubes. I try tapping the carbs with a wrench to free up the floats but they all keep dumping. Also the Z1 connectors are leaking as well. They were a bitch getting in, which is why the leak from the connectors is surprising.

Any thoughts?

2 different things.

First the fuel inlet tee and connector. My guess si you twisted an O ring or 2. I would pop the original Suzuki ones back in. They all leak if they dry out. Soak them in petrol and they swell up and work fine. Usually.

Second, dumping out of the overflows. Either the floats are stuck (as you thought) or the valves / seats are worn (or the floats are badly adjusted). You need to take a look at those needles with a magnifying glass - any wear then they are junk.

Did you use grease on the O-rings before you stuffed the connectors into the carbs?

As for the float needles, did you clean them, and the rest of the carb parts, using carb dip and replace all the O-rings when you put them back together?

Nessism- Yes i dipped and cleaned all parts. and no i did not grease the orings.

Hampshirehog- I noticed that taking the original connectors out they were quite snug, more so when i originally put them in. And on the overflow, i can inspect these parts (float and pin) without removing the carbs from the boots, correct?

Well can be done I suppose but easier to pull the carbs out completely I would have thought.

Also the Z1 connectors are leaking as well. They were a bitch getting in, which is why the leak from the connectors is surprising.

You're not the first to experience this problem.
I'm afraid the o-rings from Z1 are too big. Mr. Barrs kit comes with o-rings for the fuel rail connectors and are a perfect fit.
