DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

just bought a bike from my uncle for 200$ I'll attach pics soon but you would think the bike was hunting its so camouflaged, its a 1980 450gs and it been outside for a long long time it will be a full rebuild to as aclose to stock as originall with new exhaust and maybe a aftermarket headlight set up, it needs everything from tires to carbs cleaned, i know its a big task but im taking it one step at a time and will be looking for you guys for guidance and wisdom, i'll be pulling out of whatever that monstrosity of a plant is tommorow and cleaning it thought about spraying it down witha hose but thought that might damage it then thought its been outsie for 5 years or more, its prolly not going to harm anything else at this point what do you guys think and where should i start first :) thanks derek from mo

guess i should say seat and side covers were in perfect condition so while im going no where i'll be comfortable :)

No disrespect intended, but your uncle deserves a slap upside the head for charging you money for that thing. He should be paying you for cleaning up his yard!:-#

Hope you get it going and welcome to the GSR.:D

I laughed a little. Not making fun or anything but I think thats prolly the worse I've ever seen. But thats not saying a whole lots since I've only been fooling with these ole things for a year or so.

Good luck with your project, sounds like you're pretty stoked about it. Thats a good thing!!

Do keep us posted. I would love to see that thing without the ugly weeds, or is that a fairing?
One in the same...

Nah, that one's fine. No tree trunks through the frame or nothing.
Stickerbushes are just part of the patina in this case.

Probably not in as bad of shape as you think it is. Mine sat for over 2 years, cleaned carbs, added a battery and it's my daily driver. Restoring or custom?

The first thing I'd do is dump the Vetter. You might be able to make a few bucks back off of it.

first of all , doing a rebuild for a friend he got jewed not me
second, trying to go all oem as possible
third, what a vetter, ...this is going to be a long project...

By 'vetter' he means the front fairing. Vetter is the name a manufacturer of those fairings.
BTW your language may be found offensive by some of our Jewish members.

sorry about the reference my apologies to all, and i thought thats what it was but i was unsure... thank you for the clear up...

I may have sounded a little harsh as well. The Vetter is that big honking fairing. The bike will handle tons better without it. People are always looking for parts off of them or you might be able to sell the entire fairing. If you want a little wind protection a small sport fairing would look better and fit the character of the bike better. The 450s look sweet when they get done right.

wow got the side panels and the seat today, and well he was right mint* condition, its the original 1980's seat looks brand new going to armoral it and get it all cleaned up its a little dusty then i will post some pics , also got the bike pulled apart from the ... "scenery" posion ivy from batman returns was there she was yelling at me the whole time, tell me i was destroying her creation like it was some art form, anway bike key now in my possession time to take her to the garage and start the break down, anyone know of anywhere in northern mo or kc where i can get the carbs cleaned?

Get hold of Renobruce... he is not in that area but when he gets done your carbs will look like they are brand new and not ever has there been a complaint. Hey you got a mint condition seat and both side covers...woot hell that would almost be worth the $200 bucks..lol. Look around at the introduction area if Basscliff does not hit you soon. He has a site that will give you almost every bit of information you need to get her rebuilt right. Welcome to the best Forum on the Web.

Don't listen to all the Vetter bashing. I'm one of them that likes them. And, it's a Quicksilver which is hard to come by. You should be able to sell it as long as it's in good enough shape.

never laid over just some weathering, hoping to pull it off and sell it
new owner doesn't want it...anyone on here need one i can ship...
