what did you wrench on today??

Before I put the cylinders back in place on the bike, i removed the passenger side window regulator and motor for the Jeep. Seems the wife left the window down earlier this week overnight and it wouldn't roll up the next day. After I getting it out I tested it and the cable snapped.

I'll try to get a new one from her paycheck on Friday.

Started off like this for $160 Craigslist and local;

story is 10K miles on the break-in oil  and NO COMPRESSION let's give it a whirl

Seems to be running pretty well, but I need to flush the oil after it breaks in a bit :o

Pops Yoshimura would have been proud; I honed that little rod end with 800 grit wrapped around a socket till the new pin would fit

P/S wonder how the piston got in two halves??? Plunge cut with a diamond tipped 4" blade ( that was not in the manual, I invented it)

Is that your next upgrade Jim? :p

I'm preparing for some... well it won't quite be wrenching... the parts arrived at the repairer and I picked up the GTR1000 guard and tail light yesterday as I need to re-cut the guard to match the first one that was damaged. It's the one bit that would have the repairer needing my bike for a looooong time so I'm happy to do it myself...

The tail light is quite out of shape compared with how it should be...

Hopefully should have the guard trimmed up and ready to take back next week for paint, then it should all be good to go back on and get the 450 back to where it was before the accident...

removed cam-chain tnsr ..

and re-installed freshly powdercoated rear rack on other bike.

Isn't much left to work with.

Isn't much left to work with.

My wife said I should start a poll asking if I should fix it or not. I told her I already know what the answer would be without even asking.

Trudging onward.

Started assembly of my retro fridge.

Only to find out the disassembly pics are on my work computer...

Progress so far:

Bent a contact in place to make the right directional work. It appears that after 30 years it bent a bit, on the flip side a little nettle nose bend and we are back i business.

Also final got sick of looking at a pink kill switch so I got that painted red also.

Got the replacement rear guard trimmed up and test fitted with the tail light today, so they can go back to the repairer this week for paint.

I also tried replacing my horn but either my bike's killing them or I now have bought two faulty ones in a row... swapped the first one on Friday for another new one and that's the one on there now that also refused to work. Multimeter tells me it has voltage on the connectors but I get no horn action...

Final tweaks on the wife and stepkid's bikes. They are now both safe, roadworthy, and able to pass PA inspection. Two more old bikes are back on the road. It's a small accomplishment but forgive me for a bit of self-congratulation. Now we can concentrate on visuals and comfort! Next project is to rewire the ignition on mine through a relay to solve the cold spark problem. That will be next week and I might even post pics if people are interested.

No wrenching (still waiting for a gasket) but got the garage work space cleaned up. New pegboard and better lighting. It's going to make working on the bike a lot easier.

Dissasembled and lubed the scooter clutch cable. It was tight, due to an unwound strand...and being 48 years old...there's a lot of stuff going on under that cover between the grips.

More of the same

More of the same

I finished cutting off all the rusted steel yesterday. I took me about 4 hours. Sure isn't much left of it. Today we went with my friend Brian and his his wife to some market looking to buy flea's, and I picked up a pair of new #1750 springs for $20. Sometime during this week I'll pick up the angle iron necessary to make the framework for it.

Plodding along...

...wired in a shindingen sh538 regulator to the beater bike (donated temporarily? from the Honda silverwing I have kickin around) ....bike now shows ~14.2 volts with the headlight on, so I feel waaay better that I rewound the stator. Ongoing of course, but at least I know progress is forward.

Disassembled rear turn signals mounts, seat grab bar and backrest. Sand blasted everything, fabbed a new luggage rack and powder coated all of it and reassembled.

Got a friends r1 took rear wheel off so he could get new tire. Wheel back on today and its up on the lift for oil change and lube evrything that needs it. Awsome bike very fast super light fun to ride (for a short time)

It's not a bike, but I was able to get one our or old rental projectors from work for free :D. The power supply was bad, there was a serious short from the ac input to the motherboard and it's been shelved for like two years. I brought it home last night and my roommate helped tear it apart.

They really didn't want anyone servicing this thing... to access the screws to lift the whole thing out of the plastic cradle was under a board. We were able to get everything else disconnected but the RGB ribbons were freakin cemented to the board and the access screws were all underneath it....

We had to tear the entire thing apart but we found the issue. Crappy soldering on the main power in, one had weakened and blown out the solder so it was shorting really badly.

Very carefully putting it back together...

Success!! Not bad for a free projector :D
