If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

What Fork Bushings for my GS850G??

I have replaced the fork seals only approx 10.000kms ago and one is already badly leaking.
I suspect this to be due to worn out fork bushings rather than only the seals (the bike has 100 000+ kms) so I'd like to replace the bushings.

The problem is that the parts diagram (as on the bikebandit etc websites) shows no fork bushings for my 1980 model.
I believe this is due to variations in models accross different markets (I have a New Zealand model).

So, the question is, what bushings should I order (what part number)?

Are all the bushings across the GS models (that do have them) the same?

Any help appreciated!

If I was you I would phone a dealer there, get the part number then order them online:cool:

I bumped into the same thing with my 850GL when I first wanted to rebuild those forks. I talked to to Z1 about it, and they didn't get far trying to track down a number. Before they spent more time on it, I managed to inspect my forks and decided the bushings could stay in there. IMHO, it's easier to believe something happened during installation, or a rust pit has developed in the stanchion's chrome. Or maybe a gravel ding or something. If I'm not mistaken, these forks have been known to go a lot farther than 100,000km.

The part number doesn't seem to exist for the 1983 GS850 either.

At about 80,000 miles, I did the same searching around, but finally I just shrugged and put the old bushings back in my forks. The bushings didn't look new, but they didn't look all that worn, either.

The forks are still forking happily at 110,000 miles.

thanks for the replies guys.

i tracked down the part number for the stanchion bushings - 51121-49200 - as that seems to be the same part number for all gs's that have those bushings. the exception is the gk model that has a different part number.

however, none of the parts diagrams show the fork leg top bushing as a separate part  (located just under the fork seal).

i'll change the ones that i can get and take it from there...
