I don't have the license for running 9's. Am in the process of getting it. I'm assuming if I show up without a license and a 9 second bike they will not let me run pro-et.

Great, maybe we will see you there. If you want my help, I seem to have become an expert in slowing things down. If I can make my bike run in the 16 second range, just think what I could do for you!!!

Mike, that 7.6 came out of nowhere. All I can figure is that I had some sort of tail wind (which we didn't) or maybe it is getting ready to blow up. Funny how fast Jake's stock bike was to mine. Not too many changes to the chassis as I remember. He has a LOT more seat time on his per year.

Get that thing going again. We miss all of your play by plays.

Lecroy, didn't a GS1100 run about 12 flat when they came out? Sounds like you still have a good running bike to be 20 yrs old. Jake, what needles were you using? What was your average 1/8th mph when it was stock? Mike J

That was with PeeWee Gleason as the pilot, not my fat ass. That's the main reason the RD is so damm quick. The kid is 16 now and maybe weighs 100 pounds. I have had this engine apart more than once. It got a brand new transmission a few years back because of the abuse. And like Jakes bike, I never welded the crank or changed the clutch basket. One tough bike. If Jake would have setup the original stock bike used in those tests they would have bettered the time by a second!!!

Yea but you ran 11.9 so that is good for totally stock bike if you ask me. I'm going to try a few things this week and see what happens. Mike J

Stock gearing I'd say about 7.50 to 7.60 range. 60 footer where in the 1.80's

With a 14 up front I'd say about 7.40 to 7.20 and 60 footers where in the 1.70's

You have to get real aggressive with the throttle and let that clutch slip up to near the tree then nail 2nd and 3rd. A front strap is worth the money.

The key is a good 60ft and 330ft after that the time is pretty constant as long as you don't mis-shift.

I think I make over 400 runs in 03 and the more i did it the faster i ran. Get the bike dialed in and have some fun :D

Jake, on 3rd run I had a 1.73 60' time. That was on the 7.66 pass. I think the bike will run quicker but I have to get sputter out of it. Mike J

1.73 is a great 60ft. If you can get a 4.60 330ft you should be knocking on the door with a good run.

These's GS's love their fuel as much as a sailor loves his rum.

Good Luck

Jake, do you what your 60' time was on that 7.18 pass? I'm just trying to get an idea of where I need to be. Mike J

As a GS1100
RT 0.587
60ft 1.76
330ft 4.68
660ft 7.18
MPH 97.17

As a 1166 without wheelie bars same tire as on the 7.18 run
RT 0.613
60ft 1.75
330ft 4.55
660ft 6.88
MPH 103.88

Well I guess my biggest problem is that I'm about 8 mph off what you ran. Hopefully I can find my problem soon. Mike J

Ok, so we didn't make it to Norwalk.

But, how did you do? Any good pictures?

I didn't get to race this weeked, rain again. I think I have solved at least one more of my problems. I had some stock coils that I bought off ebay. When I got them, one of them had the plug wires replaced and it looked suspect. It ran but sometimes it would sputter. I bought another set and replaced the suspect one and that woke the bike up. I'm looking for better numbers hopefully this weekend. I'm also doing some mods to the clutch cable so that I will be able to leave smoother hopefully. Mike J

Ok I made it to the track again tonight, finallly had a clear day. The bike is running much better since the coil change. My best 60' was 1.71, my best Et was 7.37 and my best mph was 93.56. I picked up about 4.5 mph and about 3 tenths on my ET. I'm going to pull my plugs and see what they look like one day this week. Tying down the from end helped a little, it didn't want to wheelie. My worst 60' time was a 1.77 and that was on the 7.37 pass so I guess that a 7.31 isn't out of the question. Jake, I may have asked this before but I'll do it again. Did you run pump gas? Is your ignition stock? TIA Mike J

Yeap 87 octane and stock timing 34 degrees.

What gear ratio are you running??

You have some great 60ft times, keep it up :!: your times will drop :D

Jake, I'm running stock gearing. I know that it would probably run quicker with lower gearing but it's almost too low for street riding now. I'm going to try a few more thing to see if I can get it to pick up. Mike J

This is priceless, if not running any type of outboard support then just 10 bucks worth of steel will work too. Once you cross over to slicks and bars your going to wish you had one or the other.

Sort of an uneventfull weekend. Still waiting on my new sprockets to get made, so still nothing faster than that 16 second pass. We did put the kid on a tad faster bike. The RD retires until the next kid is old enough. Set the throttle to where it would only open about 3/4 of the way and then retarded the timing as far as the plate would move. His first pass was in the 11's. Way too many changes going to a bike like this. Too much to think about. Second pass was a 9.60. This got the attention of the track and he had to apply for a license. First time trial came on day two where the bike ran a 9.18. He hit all the shift points and kept the bike very streight. I think that is about all the power we are going to give him until he gets used to it. Hard to imagine a 16 year old running this fast, but it's not like his first time out. I took a few more pictures and will post them in a while.
