  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

What is going on at the drags? No one posting. Did everyone blow their stuff up and don't want to come clean, or r u just having 2 much fun 2 post?

I have not drove the drag bike at all this year. Still sorting out problems with the new setup. Ready to throw in the towel, be a cow and follow the herd.

Have been going to the track, pitting for a friend of mine. It's alright, but not as much fun as driving. Last weekend was a disaster. I was watching the little 2-stroke that has the lockup that I work on from time to time. This thing just can't get into the 10's still. Anyway, was watching the kid and noticed that the tire does not get hot during the burnout and that he was in way to deep. So I asked him about it and he was telling me how the clutch could not hold the power in the box. So I took a few measurements and came to the conclusion that the gap was too much and there was not yet enough static pressure. So, up one size in springs and added 0.020 to the gap. Not a big change I was thinking. So I had him fall back in the pack so I could go up with him when we tried it. I set him in the box and noticed this time we had lots of heat in second gear. A great sign. And this time when he gave it the final fling, the bike stuck. I had already told him he was going to go red because the bike would react much faster. Sure enough, the bike launches hard. On the bars right from the get go. He cuts a 470 and the bike gets out about 4 feet or so and then runs out of power. So now I am getting plates cut from 0.060 to 0.080 in 0.005 increments to better tune the gap. The bike did run a higher MPH.

Damm, I hate tuning these clutches.

Well, hope everyone is having better luck than me. I hope to get the old drag bike out next Friday for some testing.
 
Yeap, my bike is still in the corner and still needs the cranked pulled. Been in Rosco's country the past 3 weeks. Most likely head to the track tomorrow with the HD, hoping to break in the 8.40 range----ho-ho :?

But it's nice to be back home so I can start to work on the old Suzuki again. No Nascar, no racing, no sports in the last 3 weeks :(
 
You were up this way!!?? We could have had a cold beer waiting for you!!!

Hope you get yours done soon. I test fired the old girl today with the new carb and it seems pretty good. Plan to take it to test and tune next week.
 
A cold one, that's what my wife was afraid of. I'd never come back.

Took the HD out on Friday and it was a dog 8.70's, then today took out the Yamaha TW200 and it was a biggger dog. Like 12.60 at 48 mph, I could of read a book going down the track.

What was strange was using my foot to shift and no delay box so I was launching on the 3rd amber. It just didn't feel right, I need to get this Suzuki fix asap and cross backover to the Darkside where all is good.

Thursday would have been my frist track day but my parts didn't come in on time. Now that my bike is safe to ride again I've been busy tuning the carbs for more power. I've got the mains alright with 115s but I'm going to try 120s in a few days as 5th gear barely accelerates past 7000 RPM. Off idle, roll-ons, and mid range have all been week so I've also tried to to tweak that stuff. I dropped the needle clips down 1 notch so they are at the bottom now, I also turned the pilots in half a turn from 3.5. My choke wasn't doing anything and I was having hard warm starts so I think the bike was too rich at idle.

I'm working on the next track day but I may race on the 8,9,10 of July. We'll see. Getting to a dyno would be fun too.

First in the points so far at Thompson. Best pass was a 9.77 @135. Then the air got rally bad and I've been running in the 9.90's 132-133. Best pass on the busa so far has been 10.84 @136.

R U running the IHRA points? If so, maybe we will see you at the end of the year. Friends I am pitting for are running first as well.

I think my Harley would keep up with your 200, but not your Harley. For now, no more funny fuel. I just could not get enough of it into the engine. Planning to use C16 or Import. There were just too many good reasons to run it, so I plan to try and come up with something better this winter.

Steve, is this the first time you have ever ran a bike at the drag strip???

Thompson went NHRA last year. Our bracket finals are at Indy. 99% of the bikes there run boxes. We are a no box track. I went last year just to go. Went out in the second round. I'm thinking about not bothering this year. Thats alot of time away from my family, time off work, money, and traveling to race a no box bike in a box race. This is from the street drags just out having some fun.

Is that a dirt tire on the back of that??!! Do your theeth chatter going down the track??

At one of the backwoods tracks I used to race at there was a kid who had a wheelie bar and slick on a little 2-stroke dirt bike. Nothing else done to it.

Man that Busa looks way to nice to be at a drag strip!!
 
It's a DOT dual purpose 180 rear and the front is 120 or 130. It starts whaling around 45 mph but with so little power I think the VHT on the track slows me down :(

I'm 18th in point at my track, if I would start going on Sat instead of Fri I could give those guys a run.

I'd like to put my delay box and bars on it, It could be the most deadly'est bracket bike around at 12.60 in the 1/8. :D
 
You would kill the fast bikes with that thing. They could never judge you at the finish line.

Finally took my old bike to the track yesterday. It's way out of wack. I think my best time of two passes was 16 seconds at 106 MPH (thats in a 1/4 mile) :roll: :roll:

On the plus side, I did get some good data. On the down side I may have hurt the motor. Back apart she comes.
 
Hate to hear that lecroy :( , but i think it's safe to say we've all been there before. Besides I get alittle bored after 4 months and it gives me something to do. Was this you turbo bike ?

Last week I was racing against a 6.70 and 7.00 bike and I was around the 330 mark before they left the line. I'd get 5 feet from the finish line and hit the front brake hard and the front would drive hard too. They thought they were going to break out too and they got on the brakes too. They got a laugh out of it even after I started talking about sandbagging with the slow'est bike afterwards.

I really wanted to go up against a few of our 5's bikes. I'd probably be down around the traps before they would get the green. Most likely get banned from racing this bike if I'd start taking out the big dogs :lol:
 
Thanks. Yep, it was the old turbo bike. I just made way too many changes at one shot. The gasoline was the biggest problem. I jetted it way rich and planned to work my way down, but it leaned out. I was running some 120+ octain fuel that may have saved my ass. I think I was getting 40HP or so out of it. I had bought much larger jets, so if nothing is damaged, I should be back out next Friday for another round.

I spent about four hours last week cutting clutch parts for the little RD project. I had a friend of mine try to grind these but they warped. I ended up using one of our grinders at work to cut them. What a pain.
Played with them over the weekend and got the bike to pick the front end up and carry it maybe 15 feet out. It was funny. I started out adding about 0.007" to the gap. The front end would pick up off the line for a few feet, drop, then the weights would kick in and the front end would bounce. At about 0.015" the amount of time the tire would drop was much less, but still not clean. I think I ended up at 0.017". This thing is damm touchy. Raced it today and started going rounds. I was sitting at the line squating right next to the bike, watching very close on every run. Things were going good and then we lost power. The bike ran the fastest it ever has at almost 114MPH. Two passes were a solid 113MPH in the 11.20s. Man, I wish my old stock GS were this quick and fast with me on it.
 
Another bike class win last night. And then a lightning round win. A quick $500. Sound like busa swingarm time or maybe I should get some bigger pistons for the gs. Like a 1260 kit? hmmm

Is this right, there are only 6 bikes running at your track this year??? Next weekend is an all bike meet at the local track. I think the payout is $750 to win. You should make the trip. I may have to take my old GS to that one.
