If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi there. Does anyone know what position the gears, selector forks need to be in when mating the crankcases back together.

If so what is the proceure and what gear do the shafts, selectors need to be in and how can you tell what gear position they are in when the cases are open on the work bench.

I don't want the cases to not close up properly together because a selector fork is not going into it's appropriate groove on it's gear.

Thanks

As long as the 3 forks slide into the right slots on the gears you should be fine. Did one the other day and using new seals with white 3 bond was a no-no. The 3 bond makes the (tighter) seals slide out from where there sitting. So being too cautious has a down side. just do a dry run and get used to it. Sometimes a long rod will be needed to get into the forks to help line them up. 2 dowels, crank seal, drive gear cluster seal, front sprocket seal, cam chain and various semi circle retainers are just the check list. I do ALL the treads with never seaze and grease the boltheads/washers for a better torque setting. But some say im anal that way.

I suggest setting the shift drum in neutral (with the transmission in neutral the output shaft will turn freely), and agree with sharpy on trial fitting the cases together before slathering on the sealer goop. One key to having a clean install is to clean the dowel pins and matching holes in the case so the case halves mate together fully without having to pound on anything.

Good luck

Thanks Sharpy & Ed,

Any other comments gladfully received.

Could not find anything in the manual about it.
Thanks

doesn't matter. getting the forks in the right place is what matters. the gear indicator just follows the forks as the drum turns.

I like to dry fit it in gear and run the cogs. Then put it into neutral after its together.

Yes Ed, I killed the old dowels getting them out and had to buy new ones. I ran a 13mm drill by hand in each of the dowel pin holes and everything fits a treat now.

A good tip that one.

That one should be easy for you, Don. :o

Just refer to all those digital pictures you took as you were disassembling. :D

You did take pictures, didn't you?
