so, when i got my 79 gs 550e last july, it came with rebuilt carbs, all tuned up ready to ride, less than 8,000 miles.... bought for 700$ and i paid for carb rebuild kits and beer while he taught me how to do simple stuff like change the oil, replace battery, remove ignition cylinder to go get a new key cut, etc....with the help of this site, ive taught myself how to fix a few other problems too so lets tackle a new one......had I known installing pod filters would screw up so much, i would have never let him do it, but none the less, i've got after market pods, and i think the baffels in the exhaust have been tampered with due to the fact that at 5500 rpm i can set off a bunch of car alarms ( which i think is funny to be honest) when i got the bike it would fall on its face at almost 6k rpm but i could run through 1-6 gears with no problem. i think i've read almost all threads about pods and jetting so i pulled the carbs, and replaced the 92.5 stock jets with 110's.....what a difference! pulls right to the redline and was like riding a totally different bike....Now heres the next issue....when shifting to 4th gear while giving it half to full throttle it seems to bog down a bit at around 5k rpm...if i wind the throttle up slowly i can continue on to 5th gear, but it 5th it does the same thing. did i go up enough on the jets or is it a different problem? any suggestions appreciated!
