    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What's the hose for coming from the fuel float?

At first, I was thinking vent (Ill get to that....) Now I'm thinking an overflow in case the float leaks.

I was on my way home from work (6mi) approaching a major intersection and she quit. Like it ran out of gas. The tank is full. Waddled out of traffic to a safe place. Tried a couple more starts. Nothing. Got off to have a look at the petcock. I just had the tank off for a new battery. Both hoses looked normal. Switched to PRI and popped open the gas cap. Didn't notice any vacuum taking the cap off. Sat for a minute hoping the bowls are refilling on PRI. Started right up and I went home on PRI. Shut it off and switched it back to ON.

I'm looking at it again now wondering if that hose from the float could be a culprit. I don't think so. I do see that the petcock vac hose may have 1/2 a kink and it's an old hose. Might change that and see how it goes........
 
Correct, hose from float is for safety, if float leaks gas doesn't drip on eng. hose should be routed to a safer place to disperse gas... Good luck
 
If this is an 82 1100E as in your signature, these are CV carbs. No drain lines. The hoses coming from the nipples between 1&2 and 3&4 are vent lines. They should be routed up over the airbox and terminate in still air. See your manual.

Oh, maybe your talking abount the gas tank fuel level sending unit. Yes, that is only an emergency drain line for only if /when the sending unit gasket were to leak. The hos should be route over down to the ground

I think it was an air bubble in the fuel line. Happens sometimes with gravity fed fuel lines. Trimming the lines shorter will help. No uphill loops.
 
For troubleshooting: The fact that Turning the petcock to PRIme seemed to clear the symptoms could be significant.

Perhaps we should put some attention to the vacuum line to the petcock (which would have needed to be disconnected to remove the tank) (but without would not have made it TO work, and said was returning from work).
Investigate the vacuum line from petcock to the vacuum port on carb near the head. Maybe it came back off, or maybe has big crack.
