wheelie bar help

Just asking...I'm actually planning on drag racing my k1300R and my GSXS1000F on Sept 12th....no wheelie bar...I guess I'm not that serious. Cheers

No.....
You are just not bracket racing, which is much more difficult than just going fast.

Racing Slick Tire, The Wheelie Bar, and a Air Shifter.
You Pre Stage, you bring your rpm's up to about 7,000 At this time you want to get comfortable, position your feet to where you want them.
Roll forward a few inches, then your staged.
Next, the amber lights start coming down to GREEN
You open the throttle wide open and let the clutch lever fly!
The rear tire grips the track. The front wheel comes off the ground till the Wheelie bars catch it
Your rpm's are coming up because you're in first gear. You stab at that Air shifter button to get it into second gear!
You tuck in and wait to hit third fourth and fifth gear.
In fifth gear you can look around a bit to see where your competitor is at. If you have them beat, you can back off the throttle to prevent braking out. If you don't have him beat, you stay tucked in and hope he runs quicker than his dial in time.
That's something how I remember doing it. 👍

i have thought about an air shifter but i gotta get over my fear of wheelies and be able to launch, altho if i deside to decatate this bike to just bracket racing its deffinnalty getting an air shifter. my 1-2 shift is good, my 2-3 shift is my problem. i knoestly think its a trans issue tho. from what a lot of other people who do bracket racing tell me after you get your times very close every time than start slowly maiking your bike faster and faster.

Trevor, bracket racing is all about consistency.
You have to know the time you will run, and a consistent launch is key.
And wheelie bars help your launch be consistent. A two step and slider clutch also help.

When I dragged raced years ago, when I was 18...I remember you had to submit a time that you thought you would run and then the lights were set accordingly to the guy you were racing. Is that bracket racing? I know I had to be very close to the time I had set.

Yup....that's the jist of it. Close but not faster....

basicly bracket racing is saying a time that you will be trapping at or close to without going faster. so say like me for example last event i was running about 14.7 and i was saying id run 14.65 so i never went faster than my said time and the 9 second sled leaves the line after a few seconds delay to make it so both our times crossing the fininsh line are as close possably, and who ever gets to the finish line 1st wins. its a lot of fun and very difficult to keep times constent if the launch is never the same. my trouble was/is launching. so wheelie bar would be a big help once i dial in the launch using it for help. i also just figured out my fzr600 rear swing arm will fit, slight modd of the frame axle bolt hole needs wideing, and ill be able to run a drag slick on the fzr600 rim. rather than the street tire im running. im running a dunloup d1404 and it does stick to the track but its still a street tire.

Yup, you get it. Good luck.
I bracket raced a low 9 sec 1100E for several years, both box and no box. It ain't easy.

Are you wanting to be competitive in Pro Et? Or do you want to just have fun on a street bike?
If you are just wanting to have fun on your street bike. Then the only thing you need is an air shifter and shift light and have some fun. If you are wanting to be competitive in Pro Et. Then buy a bike that is already set up for Pro Et. If you want to be competitive in Pro Et you need to have the same weapon as everyone else. (You don’t bring a knife to a gun fight.) Pro Et bike is nothing more than a poor mans dragster. At least that’s what I call them.
You need a 2- step, delay box, air shifter, air clutch or slider clutch, and auto shift box. (throttle stop) for index racing. At the least to be competitive. You can set up a no bar Pro Et bike but it will be far from a true street bike. If you not within .020 of a perfect run et and reaction time together your gonna lose in Pro Et.
I would suggest that you just add an air shifter and shift light and have some fun in Street Et. Until you are ready to build or buy a bike setup for bracket racing. I have a blast racing my street bike in Street Et.
no need for wheelie bars on a street bike.
To answer your question about the delay box. A properly setup Pro Et bike will leave at full throttle on a 2- step studder at a certain rpm. I have mine set at 4800rpm my slider clutch is set at 5100rpm so my bike will not move until the 2-step shuts off. Which is controlled by a button with my left thumb. The delay box is connected to the 2-step button and when I let go of the button the delay box holds the button on for a predetermined amount of time. Let’s say I go to a different track that has less rollout and I go -.005 red and I have 1.150 in the delay box then I would put 1.160 in the delay box and my reaction time should be .005 green.
And you can cross over to you opponents tree if he is slower than you and leave off of his tree also.

An air shifter will help you control the wheelie as you can hang your feet for balance and still get 2nd gear without loosing momentum. seat time at the track is your best friend. After a while you will no longer be worried about the wheelie and your launch will be consistent. The perfect launch is when the front tire is between 1? and 6? at full throttle. But your bike is not going to carry the front tire any distance that low to the ground only being a 500cc
rev you bike to 50% of redline at the same time and same speed let both clutch and throttle out together. You will learn how fast or slow you can release the clutch and open the throttle on whether it Boggs or not. Your rpm?s should never fall only go up.

that won’t work out very well at the tracks I race at. Most racers will bag 1 or 2 or dial in honestly like I do. If I run a 5.817 time run I would dial a 5.82. But .05 over your dial in will put you back on the trailer almost every time at my track.
My last 3 passes on my Pro Et bike were 5.827, 5.824 and 5.819 they were all time runs about 4 hrs apart.

@Darthjames21, any progress on getting the wheelie bars mounted? Photos will help.

I assume your bike still is a twin-shocker. The top mounts probably may be a good place to install the upper arm of the wheelie bar.

working on it more tonight, not sure if ill get it done for this weekend like i wanted............ weekend was too busy to work on it. i did get parts to hopefully have everything mocked up in 2 different spots for the wheelie bar. i will keep this page posted with my updates.

I don’t know if this will help you or not what do you want to position the bar mounts something like this.
It’s a crude drawing but you can see the lower bar goes under the axle and the top mount goes above it

so appearently im dumb and cant figure out how to add pics off my phone to my computer. im not tech savy lol. this weekend at bir my buddies gunna show me how to do it so i can add pics to the threads.
