Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I read the researchers stumbled upon it about 10-12 yrs ago by accident, it took them a number of years to duplicate what they done. We'll see where it goes there will labs all over the world attempting to duplicate the results. If true it'll be a massive technological leap forward for humanity.
You're implying fraud...and what would be the point of a deliberate fraud? There's no money to be made claiming a false breakthrough only academic embarrassment and potential careers destroyed.
I noticed something a lot of u here have in common, we're old, we're in our last years and we're really grumpy because of it.
Many of us we no longer need to worry about purchasing an EV our ICEs will last us to our last driving/riding days, when we'll switch to ev wheel chairs
. The price we balk at now for ev's is the norm for many ICEs, we suffer from price shock because it's been so long since we purchased a new vehicle. Paying 50-100k for a new ICE is now routine, buying an EV at those prices is no different. Entry level ev's are coming with mass production and newer technology, I'm a little peeved I won't experience the new ev world.
In 10 years I'll rename this thread "Does anyone here still drive/ride an ICE". I'll still have my GS
because in 10yrs time no one under 50 will be dumb enough buy an ICE.

Per Google, Avg. price ICE auto $45K, avg. price EV. auto $61K... cost roughly $16K higher... avg. mi. per $100 in AL (just cause AL popped up first) ICE 1,060mi. vs EV 3.333mi. saying roughly every time drive 3,333K mi. save $200.... $16K extra price divided by the $200 saved every 3,333 mi. driven = 80, 80 X the 3,333mi. to save each $200 = at 266,640 mi. you will have saved the $16K you originally spent.... Did I do that right??? I think so... Also you said "nobody's been forced its better because it's better and practical" I see what you're say'in, but think of this. If the EV's will, and they probably will, be better and more practical, why has Cal. passed a bill making it illegal to sell new ICE autos after 2035? If the newer EV's have got better and more practical by then, why have a law? folks will just buy them because they are better and more practical... No doubt the EV's do just keep evolving and that's good... I keep wondering if, and they may already be, trying to come up with a better way to supply hydrogen for fueling our autos.... Guess we'll all sit back and see what happens....Different but kind'f related, you can look it up last night 9/7/23 a Nissan Leaf caught fire while attached to a charger at the Nissan North headquarters in Franklin TN. firefighters used 45,000 gal. of water for 5 hrs to get it put out.
wyly, you'll be 65 in what seems like 2 years to you. We're not grumpy, heck, with the tooling I own and my knowledge of electronics, and CAD, I could rebuild a Prious Battery for $1700 bucks, and make a hybrid off of that. Why bother though. Those cars use batteries that pollute the world, cause untold damage to 3rd world countries digging up the rare earth minerals. You'll catch up soon enough, and will have seen it all before, and the crock of sh*t it's brewing in.. 
On a tour 11 years ago, we din a 600 mile day first day then 2 more later after a broken front wheel caused a 2 1/2 day delay we did 2 back to back 600 mile days. 3 of the bikes, a 1983 GS1100G and two GS850Gs, easily handled the 600 mile days. Those were Unfaired bikes and we avoided Interstate highways because they suck.
The 1100G and one of the 850Gs were $1200 or under and either delivered to the house or I took a train to get it and ride it back home. ( the 1100; one 850 was $600 delivered to the driveway)
This was a great tour. First, an electric bike would have to do it. Second, you who asked the question can pick the day but I don't travel with commerce. The back of trucks I've seen already.

where did you get the idea i'll be 65 in 2 years? I'm 70.The damage to 3rd world country will never match the damage that's already been done by resource extraction and deforestation, The damage for the coming warming will be measured in trillions of dollars, many of those 3rd world countries become uninhabitable due to heat, drought or rising sea levels. Supplying minerals that can limit the environmental damage is their best hope.
New technology is always more expensive when introduced, prices will come down. The first big screen tvs were out of reach for us normal people $10k from what I recall, now $500 will do it. First cell phones were also out of reach for most I only new a few people who could afford them, now it seems every kid over 7 has one. The stats just reflect a shortage of entry level ev's which will change as technology improves and manufacturing costs come down. If the Chinese auto makers can get a foothold in the N American the entry level market could change very quickly. AS it is now prices are already low enough to meet my price point around $40K I just haven't see an ev that would meet my requirements, a small pickup.
The 2035 date is universal every industrial country has the same date it's meant for manufacturers not buyers. You want buy an ice in 2036 your free to do so but it won't be from any manufacturer because they'll no longer be building them. I'll sell you my pickup you can drive it until last drop of gas come out of the pumps.

Correct on most every point, the main thing is the unknown, how quickly will there be something to meet your and everybody else's requirements, where most all of us will be satisfied? Did you see the one last week where the Ford CEO headed cross country in a Ford lightning, said it was a reality check of what customers are going through getting their EVs charged. One stop he made it took him 40 min. to get a 40% charge... the way I took the article he thinks we've got more work to do.... All we have today is what we have today, that's all we can figure on... No doubt things will get better, I'm just not as sure as you seem to be when the EVs will be proven better and more practical enough that most folks will "want" to quit the ICE and go buy an EV. Many are now, just wondering when most folks will jump in.

I believe if not next year, the year after, F1 cars will be using Synthetic Fuels that do not pollute. Porsche has already developed this, and has sold a container ship's full amount to India so they can study the scaling up. I think ICE engines will be around for a very long time. Bill Gates has developed the technology to pull Gasoline, Kerosene, and Diesel right out of the air in major cities. Kind of ironic when it came out a couple of years ago, he pushed so hard on it, it's still being worked on, nobody seems to know about it.

tell us again ... how solid-state batteries are 'just around the corner' for EV adaptation
(it's now 6 - 12 months away according to you, remember? don't be moving those goalposts now, like they will re ICE sales 2035 )how's the weather up there on Planet Gullible?
Remember when there were different formats for av recordings, tapes, discs of various types and sizes, manufacturers all competing to have the dominant format, all very confusing for us consumers trying to save money by picking the right one, most of those losing formats ended up in in our garages or the landfills. We're going through that again but with ev's imo, plug-in formats, and different battery types. Tesla has won the plugin format with it's NACS, others will use an adapter to access the Tesla format. Battery, I'm guessing SS will win but then there is the still developing Sodium battery system that could sweep even that away.
Ford's current choice of battery will likely be supplanted by solid state batteries, a Chinese battery producer says it has a 15min charge time and aims to to bring even that down 50%. Combined with a SS battery that may achieve 600-700 miles is a even 40 min charge time really a problem, go have lunch and a pee while you wait. How many people ever drive more than 6-700 miles per day, plug it on over night and be fully charged for the next next day's drive.
Like av formats and cel phone formats technology will sort it self out very quickly. I think by 2035 it'll all be done and ICE's will be the domain reserved for cranky old guys and museums.

Fortunately, I do, but to be honest, I live on a dead end street, and have a huge field on the side of my property. I don't have a problem with my immediate neighbors kids playing there, I encourage it. Having great neighbors is a wonderful thing. We have some great barbecues together.

I haven't been wrong yet I'm quite conservative when I post.
Chinese ev manufacturer Nio is taking deliveries of SS batteries this year for EV rental models. Unless there is another ev manufacturer hidings it's SS development Nio will be the 1st.
Your problem is as a Luddite you're still pissed you were wrong about giving up your hoarse and wagon to the infernal combustion engine. You've got some obvious issues having an adult discussion regarding technology you hate, if you're so easily triggered by new technology you should consider moving on to another thread.
