A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey,Just got My Bike street legal yesterday so I wanna ride but I got a problem.I went to change out My Clutch Cable and when I was threading out the old one from the mount on the cover the mount broke. I've been looking for a new one to buy online but I don't think they sell em anymore. Any Ideas ? I would like to replace it with a new one if possible or pick up a used one somewhere ? I don't really see a way to fix what I got,the threads were all torn up inside anyways ( I think all this damage was done begore I got to it)This a 1980 GLT 850. Well anyways Thanks for any help on this. OutLaw

One's on Ebay right now in great shape. Lookup "Suzuki GS cover" and you'll see a few that fit I'm sure. Good luck.

If you want an ugly one cheap, I should be able to help you out. There are 850 engines all over the place in my garage... PM me if you're in the USA and interested. Any clutch cover from a '79 - '81 model GS850 will work.

I wonder if you could re-tap the threads in the adjuster part? I wonder if there's enough room for a thread insert? Since you'd need to cut a slot, a Heli-Coil is probably out.

*edit*
Oh wait -- it broke off. Never mind about the thread insert idea...

Bwringer, remember the 79 GS850G has a hole in the clutch cover for the kickstarter.

Whoops, you're absolutely right.

Don't know how I forgot that -- I'm elbow deep in rebuilding a '79 GS850 engine right now... #-o

Hello Mr. Outlaw Bit,

I just wanted to formally welcome you to the GSR forums as a Junior Member in good standing with all the rights and privileges thereof. Note that "good standing" usually implies pictures. :-D

As you can see, the folks here are just plain great at helping keep these classic bikes on the road. The community here is making me a better motorcycle mechanic and a better motorcycle rider. All the best to you. Happy wrenching! It's good to hear of another 850 on the road.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Try this place for parts. If Dave doesn't have it, he should know where to find one.

Know him, he's a stand up guy. (Heck, last week he was supposed to be on vacation and he still went in to ship parts out to people.)
