    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anybody know who sells the .03mm - .08mm feeler gauge set? You would think the local cycle shop would have at least one in this range. Thnaks.

Other people might have other ideas, but NAPA has one for about $10.00 that goes up from .04mm which is good enough for me at least. Might have to order it for you.
 
I found mine (.04mm and up) at Advance Auto, which is Kragen and Checker in some places.

I'm not too concerned about the lack of a .03mm blade -- if it's that tight, I'm going down one shim size anyway.
 
I also checked my local bike shop to no avail. It would make sense to sell tools specially for motorcyles at bike dealers but they would rather make a killing on servicing your bike instead of a few dollars on the tools. Ted
 
An English company called Draper sells a guage that has a .03 mm blade. I've seen them go from about $15 to $22 dollars. I'd think about getting one, but that thin blade would be mighty fragile...

If you really need one that starts at .03mm you can get it from snap-on tools...................you will pay dearly for it!

I hope its a hard case cause I would hate to drop a 0.003 feeler gauge.It would probably snap like a toothpick!
 
Craftsman makes a decent set with a 25 degree bend. I think I paid no more than $10.

Jethro, thanks for the tip on the tappet gauge set. Went to Sears today and picked up a set. Just what I was looking for. The price was good at $7.98. Now to try my hand at valve adjustment.

Just bumping this up. Just in case anyone is wondering, I bought the gauge from the snap-on web page for 5.20 + tax (actual brand of the tool is "Blue Point"). Took about 3 days to get it, and best of all FREE shipping! I'm sure you can get gauges that are better quality or something for a lot more, but this one for the price seems to work just fine.

The gauge has .001 (.025mm), .0015 (.038 ), .002 (.051), .003 (.076mm), .004 (.102), .005 (.127) etc.

I am looking into getting a tappet feeler guage and like the snap on one within this post. Does anyone know if a straight blade compared to blades with a curve are easier or harder to use in valve adjusts? What I really want to know are the flat blades workable/doable? Or do I need to get the bend blades from like Z1?

Flat blades are fine. They're so thin they have no problem flexing a little to get under the cam.

I bought my set from NAPA for $6 and it goes down to .038mm which is perfect for GS valve adjustments. As someone else said, if the .038 or .04mm doesn't fit you're probably going down 1 size of shim( example 2.65 down to 2.60mm) bringing it to .08(or even .09mm is fine). I even went down 2 shim sizes in a couple of my valves.
That size (less than .04mm) is like paper anyway so who cares about the angled set. Be careful, or you'll put a crimp in either if you try to force it. I had no problems using my set on the valve adjustments I did a few weeks ago.
Be sure to use mm in your discussion as someone mentioned going down to .001?? which is in inches! The shims are sold in mm and causes some confusion if you use inches.

I bought a set that includes the .03mm blade from BikeBandit. I think it was "Bikemaster" brand.

It's not worth farting around with inch size gauges.
