    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Who rebuilds carbs???

Who here could I send my 1982 gs550 carb too to get rebuilt and jetted. Id like to trade a carb rebuild and polish for a Mikuni BDST Carburetor with part number 3uu h783.
 
I do carbs but i can't feed my kid a BDST carb so trading is out. Will do them for $260 labor up front plus parts with return shipping apon completion.
We are a bike shop with the knowldge and tools to do the job right. See the link in my signiture.
I'll need to know you setup and the problems your haveing with them.
Polished caps, bowls and painted bodies are extra.

Why not do it yourself?...read through basscliffs website..all the info you need to do it is their..also on the forumns are alot of people with the same or similar set up as you are running that can give you jetting tips for the pods and pipes...part of owning an older bike is working on them..this would be a great time to learn the bike instead of shipping off the carbs to someone who you really dont know if they know what their doing and dont know what set up you have..my advice is do them yourself..also put your location in your signature..maybe another member is close and would be willing to lend a hand with the job.

EDIT: In know way was my intention to steer any poss business away from qualified carb rebuilders or busnesses..just wanted to clarify that..thanks.

I had my VM carbs done by chef very recently and he does a great job, great rates and very quick turn around time. Highly recommended.
 
i sent a set to Chef because i didnt have time to do them myself at the time..It was a total abortion. Jets left plugged, filth and scale left inside the bowls..just a nasty unprofessional job. I wound up having to do them myself anyways. I DO NOT recommend Chef for a lawn mower carb.

Defore, where are you located first of all? Secondly, the others are right, it won't be too hard for you to follow the directions on Cliff's page and do them yourself. Save you the money of shipping and they will be synched to your bike when you are done.

(cowboyup3371) I live in Saint Augustine Florida. But to everyone else the reason Im trying to do a straight trade is because Im a broke a** college student. I also have the 1977ish style carbs for the gs. I just dont have the money to completely rebuild them myself.

It's MUCH cheaper to rebuild them yourself rather than have someone else do it. All you need is a can of Berryman's carb dip (about $20) and an O-ring kit from Robert Barr ( http://cycleorings.com, about $20 or so ) and follow the well-documented procedure.

Of course you'll need a few tools. If you don't have them, hopefully you can borrow them.

You don't need a full on rebuild Just as said A gallon container of Berrymens carb cleaner and an O ring kit and the intake to head O rings. Get them from www.cycleorings.com Only other thing you may need would be a float bowl gasket but they should be reusable if you are careful

how long can you run carb cleaner in the gas before it does any damage?

Carb cleaning is easy just follow the simple instructions on Cliff's site.
You will save a bundle. Its actually fun.

I find using noxious carcinogens fun though.
Robert Barr provides and exeplary service in providing complete and inexpensive o-ring kits.
