Why is it so hard to find plug wires?

What do I have to search for? I just want the best wires I can get for an 82 GS1100E.
I have tried Bikebandit and Dennis Kirk. But I get nothing specific.
I want the best wires I can get. What would those be and where can I actually get them.

I'm pretty happy with my Dyna wires from z1enterprises. You have to cut/strip/crimp your own, but they've been doing great on my '83 GS1100GL.

Wires are built into the coil and are not replaceable. I've heard of people digging the stock wires out of the coil casing but this is a YMMV sort of thing.

New wires pretty much means new coils...

However i had a good set of coils that the dog ate, so all i did was wire the wire's together and carefully shield.

If you're replacing coils think about going with after market ones you can mount on the sparkplug itself the coils out of my tt fit it would just be a matter of making them work

Cool! Now that I would like to see! How would it hook up the the signal generator? Do you have any pics of this kind of setup? Sounds like an interesting project.....like I need another project......but it would definitely be a conversation starter!

I bought a set of 8mm Accel wires at the local Advance Auto. They're a groovy yellow with red silicone boots, and I got two sets at once, since they're intended for a V8.

Of course, I already was using Dyna coils, so I didn't have the problem of how to plug in the coil end.

Dyna and a few others also sell wire sets in an assortment of colors, but you have to use aftermarket coils.

If your coils aren't bad, you don't have to replace them. My wires were bad, so I put new ones in that I got at the auto parts store. You have to dig out the old wires, but that is no big deal.

If you want to spend the bucks, just get DYNA.

i bumped this thread instead of starting a new one. my question is: can i pull out the old wires and stick in new ones and epoxy them in tight? also, what wires are better for racing - suppression or regular?

i have pulled a wire out of an old coil and it looks like i could slide in a new one.

any thoughts? thanx

Yeah, if you can pull them out clean, just install the new wires and use some JB Weld Quick to seal them. Worked easy enough for me, but the last of the 4 wires was a real biotch to remove from the hole in the coil!

why replace the coil.unless its really bad.and digging out the wire is a bit of a hassle as well.
i just add NGK connectors and your good to go.

the plug wire connectors are pretty cool, i've never seen those before. my wires actually seem ok but i think the reason i want to do this is so i can get colored wires. i'm thinking dark blue.

any thoughts on what kind of wire is better for racing? i'm assuming the stranded copper is a better conductor but might make more radio interference which shouldn't be a problem at the races.

Solid core, with a non resistor cap. I don't think it will matter much though except to those people with radios that you may interfere with.

Non suppression for racing...they have less current resistance and are less susceptible to vibration. Many have reported success with just replacing the wires on stock coils.

solid core it is then. they sell it for 75 cents/foot at a local store although i still want blue. thanks for the input.

you will note that these are NGK racing cable and caps.they come as one in a package.so you need four.also the connectors are cheap.i dont know what colors the wires come in.i usually get black, but when i ordered these.to my surprise they were red.i think they look cool so i kept them:-D
